They are 5.69/2 to finish in the top six and are still in the FA Cup - another potential route to Europe, although they are as long as 7.613/2 on the Exchange for Wembley glory.
Chelsea's owners were said to be alarmed by the team's failure to beat an under-strength Liverpool line-up in the EFL Cup final last month.
German could be next Chelsea manager
Nagelsmann is currently in charge of the German national team and will be their manager at this summer's Euro 2024 tournament in their home country.
He was sacked by Bayern Munich a year ago but, after their struggles under Thomas Tuchel, Nagelsmann remains an appealing candidate to top clubs.
He has been in contention for the Chelsea job before, and was mentioned in connection with Tottenham in the summer too, so bettors believe the 36-year-old will manage in the Premier League at some point. He is 14/115.00 to be Liverpool's next manager.
As the German is something of a usual suspect in the next manager markets, it could pay to look beyond him in the betting.
Brighton's highly-rated Roberto De Zerbi 13/27.50 is said to be being looked at by Chelsea, although he may be mindful of what happened when his Seagulls predecessor switched to Chelsea and was sacked after seven months.
The Stamford Bridge hierarchy are also monitoring Ruben Amorim 9/110.00, as he tries to steer Sporting Lisbon to another Portuguese title.
Amorim's countrymen Jose Mourinho is 9/110.00 to return for a third spell as Chelsea manager. He won the Premier League - twice in his first time at the Bridge and once in his second spell - but do the board really want to look to their past?
Appointing Nagelsmann, 36, or Amorim, 39, would both show that Chelsea, who have a young squad, is a club looking to the future, which is surely what their fans want.
