21 September - De Zerbi new Sack Race favourite

A terrible first five games of the season will leave Spurs bottom of the table across the international break and so it's no surprise to see Roberto De Zerbi heading up the Premier League Sack Race betting on the Betfair Sportsbook.

Tottenham went into Saturday's clash with a struggling Aston Villa showing small signs of improvement, having drawn their previous two games.

But a woeful showing saw them concede a trio of soft goals before a far too late fightback, the game ending 2-3 with Villa winning their first game of the season.

De Zerbi is 2/13.00 to be the first Premier League manager out of a job.

In behind him are Michael Carrick 5/23.50 and 4/15.00 Alvaro Arbeloa, the managers of Manchester United and Fulham who met yesterday at Craven Cottage. A late equalising goal from Matheus Cunha saved Carrick from a damaging defeat, the game ending 1-1.

When the Premier League resumes it will be Sack Race favourite and second favourite facing off as Spurs travel to Old Trafford.

That is unless one of the clubs acts first of course.

17 September - Carrick new favourite in sack market and 5/2 to leave by Xmas

Michael Carrick shortened from 15/28.50 to 10/34.33 favourite in Betfair Sportsbook's next Premier League manager to leave market after Manchester United surrendered a two goal lead and crashed out of the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils were 2-0 up inside 10 minutes but relinquished control as the Seagulls swooped to an impressive victory that piled pressure on Carrick.

Betfair opened a specials market on Carrick's future and made him 5/23.50 to leave Old Trafford before Christmas.

If United do make a change then Eddie Howe is the favourite to be next in the hotseat at 15/82.88.

Betfair's James Mackie said: "With just four points from a possible 12 in the Premier League, and the embarrassing 1-0 loss in the Manchester derby with Man City down to 10 men for most of the game, Carrick was slashed into 10/34.33 to be the next manager to leave the Premier League."

Before last night's game, Betfair ambassador Alan Shearer said beating Brighton's was crucial for Carrick. It didn't happen and now the United manager is under fire like never before.

United have been here before in recent seasons and the run-up to Christmas can be a cruel period for their managers. Erik ten Hag and Jose Mourinho were both sacked then while Ruben Amorim's United tenure entered free-fall last autumn before he was dismissed in January.

Carrick impressed after succeeding Amorim as interim boss but, since getting the job permanently and starting this season, United have struggled. 14 September - Lampard new favourite in Betfair manager sack market

Coventry manager Frank Lampard shortened to 5/23.50 favourite in the Betfair Sportsbook next Premier League manager to leave market on Monday.

This morning we reported that the Coventry manager was in to 10/34.33 after his team's 5-0 loss to Brighton but still trailing Fulham's Alvaro Arbelow. The market has shifted, with the Spaniard out to 4/15.00 at the same time as Lampard shortened.

10am - Lampard and Carrick shorten in Betfair manager sack market

Coventry manager Frank Lampard shortened to 10/34.33 from 13/114.00 in the Betfair Sportsbook next top-flight manager to leave market after Coventry City suffered their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat to nil.

Lampard worked wonders last season as The Sky Blues stormed the Championship to return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years. But they have lost their first four games back in the big time and are yet to score a goal.

Will the Coventry board pull the trigger and bring in a manager who can keep them up? They are 2/51.40 to be relegated, so the message from the markets is clear - the Sky Blues are going down.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has also shortened in the next boss to leave market - in to 11/26.50 from 17/29.50. The Red Devils have suffered their second defeat of the season when they went down 1-0 to Manchester City on Sunday.

The circumstances were controversial with VAR award an Erling Haaland goal that was initially ruled out for offside. But United were poor and have only themselves to blame after failing to take their chances.

It's four points from four games for Carrick and the pressure is on for the first time in his Old Trafford tenure. This week's Carabao Cup outing against Brighton has taken on added significance.

Next Manager to Leave market favourite Alvaro Arbeloa 5/23.50 earned his first point as Fulham boss when they drew 0-0 with Liverpool. A point at Anfield is no mean feat but the Spaniard needs it to be the start of better results for Fulham if he is to avoid losing his job.

7 September - Winless pair Arbeloa and De Zerbi lead Betfair manager market

Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa is the 3/14.00 favourite in the Betfair Sportsbook next top flight manager to leave market after Fulham suffered their third consecutive Premier League defeat of the season.

The Cottagers were winning 2-1 before Crystal Palace mounted a comeback to make it three played and three lost for new Fulham boss Arbeloa. A period of stability and success under Marco Silva is well and truly over at Craven Cottage and Fulham are in to 9/43.25 to be relegated this season.

Things aren't much better in north London where Tottenham have one point from three and are yet to score in the Premier League this season.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi is 5/16.00 second favourite in the Betfair Sportsbook. The Italian may have some credit in the bank with the Spurs board after saving them from relegation last season.

The poor run can't continue for long, however, and the Italian needs to his Tottenham team to start scoring and winning - ideally when they host Everton this weekend.

On the Betfair Sportsbook, Spurs are 5/23.50 to turn their season around and finish in the top six.

25 August - Emery to leave Villa shortens to 15/2

The odds on Unai Emery leaving Aston Villa continued to shorten, reaching 15/28.50 on the Betfair Sportsbook, as the club's tumultuous summer continued.

Yesterday saw a big move on Emery in the Next Premier League Manager to Leave market, with the Spaniard shortening from 50/151.00 to 12/113.00.

Key players have left Villa, including Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa, and striker Ollie Watkins could be the next to go and Emiliano Martinez could join him.

Emery was expected to rebuild Villa this season but Sunday's defeat at Brighton left the Spaniard's team looking ill-prepared for the 2026/27 season.

The market has a new favourite, meanwhile, with Fulham boss Alvaro Arbeloa in to 9/25.50 following his club's defeat to Chelsea last night.

24 August - Betfair Sportsbook sees big move on Emery to leave Aston Villa

There was a big move on Unai Emery to leave Aston Villa as he shortened from 50/151.00 to 12/113.00 on the Betfair Sportsbook following his team's defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Villa made the worst possible start to the Premier League season on Sunday as The Seagulls slaughtered them 4-0.

It was damage limitation for Villa with just 31 minutes gone, as Brighton fired in four early goals and new signing João Gomes was sent off after 40 minutes.

Villa won the Europa League and finished fourth in the top flight last season, making 2025/26 their best campaign since they won the European Cup in 1982.

Three months on from their glorious Europa League final in Istanbul, they look a shadow of their former-selves and are 20/121.00 to finish in the top four in 2026/27.

Key players have departed this summer, with Morgan Rogers, Ezri Konsa and Youri Tielemans leaving.

There could be more sales to come with Ollie Watkins linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. Emery didn't rule out the England forward's departure when asked why he wasn't in the squad on Sunday.

Carrick favourite to be first manager to leave

For all that Emery has been backed to make a shock exit from Villa Park, the favourite to be the first manager to leave is Michael Carrick.

The Manchester United boss is 6/17.00 after his team were stunned by Hill City, losing 2-0 to the promoted Tigers.

Carrick's side looked unprepared for the season as Hull took them by surprise, scoring two first-half goals.

He got the job permamently at the end of last season after taking over in January when Ruben Amorim was sacked. Carrick impressed in the caretaker role but in 2026/27 United face a more demanding schedule and the manager will be tested.

If he does go, Eddie Howe is the favourite to replace him. The former-Newcastle boss, who left St James' Park in the summer, is 2/13.00 to be next in the Old Trafford hotseat.

Frank Lampard is 7/18.00 in the market after his Coventry team got a reality check when losing 3-0 to Arsenal on Friday.

Sergej Jakirović, the Hull boss who outwitted Carrick on Saturday, is also 7/18.00, while Roberto De Zerbi, who watched Tottenham lose 3-0 at Brentford, is 17/29.50.
