Two struggling League One sides meet at London Road in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, and there's one stat that suggests we should be all over the away win as the 21/103.10 outsiders.

That stat is the fact that Peterborough haven't beaten Barnsley on home soil since a 3-2 victory in 2015. The Tykes have won five and drawn two of the last seven meetings at London Road, they've won the last three on the spin, and they've won the last two without conceding a goal.

Neither team has started the season well, but Barnsley have lost only once away from home while Posh have won only once in front of their home fans, so in what could be a game settled by fine margins I'm happy to chance the away win given the recent head-to-head record, and not least because they are a much better price than the hosts.

I had to rub my eyes when I saw West Ham available to back at 2/13.00 to beat Fulham as I fully expected the Championship table-toppers to be favourites to beat a lowly Premier League side.

But then I read that, after a busy campaign so far, the Hammers are likely to make plenty of changes for this clash including resting star man Jarrod Bowen. They have bigger fish to fry, so to speak.

But I still can't resist backing West Ham here, especially after their thumping 6-0 win over Wrexham on Friday night. They've had more time to rest than the Cottagers, they're in great form, scoring goals for fun (16 in their last four games) and I won't be surprised at all if they line up stronger than what some people expect.

Fulham worked their socks off to get a 0-0 draw at Liverpool at the weekend and they host Manchester United this coming weekend, so if anything, it could be the visitors that make a plethora of changes.

Ipswich have made a solid start to their Premier League campaign, picking up six points from the opening 12 available to them, so while they'll be full of confidence for the visit of Arsenal, I expect boss Gary O'Neil to make plenty of changes given that they have winnable league games against Everton and Fulham on the horizon.

Don't be surprised if Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta changes his complete starting XI for the trip to Portman Road, but such is the strength in their squad it's still likely to be a very strong line-up, and it will be very strong defensively.

The Gunners won both matches against Ipswich without conceding a goal the season before last, and they also won their first few matches in this competition last year without conceding when fielding much-changed sides, so an Arsenal Win to Nil at 13/102.30 is the call.

Goals, goals, goals! That's usually the order of the day when Liverpool and Tottenham meet, and although the way this season has started suggests it might be different this time, I'm a firm believer in following trends until they stop being a trend.

Every one of the last 12 Premier League meetings between the Reds and Spurs has resulted in both teams scoring, and in total we witnessed 52 goals in that time for an average of more than four goals per game. The last five meetings at Anfield have produced 25 goals, which of course is an average of exactly five goals per game.

Despite Spurs failing to score a single goal in the Premier League this season, and Liverpool coming into this game on the back of a 0-0 at Anfield, the Betfair Sportsbook has latched on to those recent goal trends, and Over 2.5 Goals is available to back at just 1/21.50.

But as alluded to already, following strong trends can pay dividends, so we'll stick with the 'at least four goals' on average stat and back Over 3.5 Goals here at 13/102.30 in what will hopefully be a chaotic and highly-entertaining game.

Reading have just won back-to-back home games in League One, scoring a very impressive eight goals in the process. Their only other two home games this term produced a total of nine goals, so perhaps plenty of goals are on the cards at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.
