Strictly Come Dancing Tips: Back Greg Wise for third elimination

Strictly Come Dancing
Greg's samba is set to hit the skids, Rob predicts

Greg Wise did well to escape last week's dance-off but Rob Furber reckons his number could be up tonight...

"Among this year's dad dancers, Dan Walker looks in a stronger position to be cast as the evening's fast Latin entertainer, dancing CCC to MC Hammer's 'Can't Touch This' which sounds potentially show-stealing."

You can call so much right in the world of Specials and still end up failing to land winners, and last week's Strictly served as another reminder it is always best to take a trading approach.

Back high, lay low

Rhys Stephenson was tipped here at 2.89/5 to top score on the night and after his 37-scored Street routine, performed from the penultimate running order slot, he was even backed as low as 1.11/10 on Betfair's highest scorer market, only for John Whaite to defeat him from the pimp slot with his pirate-themed paso landing him a 39.

Greg Wise, tipped up at 3.7511/4 here for second elimination, also traded significantly shorter on Betfair, only to dodge the bottom two, probably by the skin of his teeth, with Katie McGlynn going on to be eliminated against Judi Love in the dance-off.

It would appear I have been working slightly ahead of the curve. Tip Katie for first elimination, she is eliminated second. Tip Greg for second elimination...

It feels like deja-vu here as Greg has to remain the pick to receive his marching orders tonight, available to back at 2.255/4 with Betfair.

So bad it's good

The clear danger for Greg is, he is dancing samba to 'Macarena' on the same night two of Strictly's star pupils among the class of 2021, Rhys - salsa, and AJ Odudu - samba, are also dancing fast Latin routines. The gulf in class will be glaring.

Not only that but among this year's dad dancers Dan Walker looks in a stronger position to be cast as the evening's fast Latin entertainer, dancing CCC to MC Hammer's 'Can't Touch This' which sounds potentially show-stealing.

We might be in, 'so bad it's good' territory with both Greg and Dan, but you sense Dan has more in his favour. He was on early last week and with Rose Ayling-Ellis also dancing CCC, and possibly even opening tonight's show, Dan is likely booked for a late r.o. slot. AJ is also due a later r.o. slot, so among the two sambas Greg looks more likely destined to be on early which could spell trouble.

Emotional pull

Judi looks teed up for a bounce after last week's dance-off appearance as she has waltz to 'Hero' by Mariah Carey, which looks like being an emotional tribute to her dad who passed away earlier this year.

Sara Davies returns to ballroom and having joint-top scored in week two with her foxtrot she has a tango to the iconic 'Por Una Cabeza' by Carlos Gardel. She looked good in last night's rehearsals and should be scoring comfortably well enough to avoid the dance-off.

John proved the star turn last week and in American Smooth he has the chance to shine again as it is a showcase ballroom number incorporating lifts.

Rhys is much more at home performing fast Latin so salsa will play well to his strengths but it could be AJ who eclipses both John and Rhys tonight with a samba to Camila Cabello's 'Don't Go Yet' which looks in pole position to top score, with AJ available to back on Betfair around 3.02/1.

Among this year's big guns, John has received tens, Rhys has received a ten, whereas AJ is yet to receive a ten. It looks like tonight's samba could earn her a first pimp slot of the series, and the pimp slot, as we saw with John last week, invariably equates to tens as long as she doesn't go wrong.

It has been a dramatic week for Strictly with Robert Webb pulling out of this year's competition due to health concerns, and Ugo Monye granted a bye tonight due to an old back injury flaring up.

This leaves Tilly Ramsay potentially vulnerable of falling into the bottom two this evening. She has paso to 'Diablo Rojo' by Rodrigo y Gabriela which is fine in terms of creating the required drama, but if only receiving middling scores she could find herself in a perilous position on the leaderboard.

Tango triumph?

Adam Peaty has been scored harshly in the last two weeks, ending up in last place on last week's judges' leaderboard. He is dancing the first Argentine tango of the series to 'Tango in the Night' by Fleetwood Mac.

Him and Katya have been training hard putting in 50 hours in the studio this week. Adam was sounding bullish on Thursday night's It Takes Two, and we can expect a comeback for him tonight, but probably only a qualified success.

Tom Fletcher dancing a first ballroom routine in foxtrot to Sinatra's 'Fly Me To The Moon' should also enjoy a decent night but they could all end up playing second fiddle to AJ.

Among the big three at the top of the Betfair winner market, Rose has the trickiest hurdle to overcome in CCC. Much like rumba, CCC is a dance that typically endures nit-picking from the judges and low scores. No matter how it goes for Rose tonight, it is one she should be happy to get out of the way so early in the series.
