Brighton v Liverpool: Goals frenzy forecast for Amex encounter

Roberto De Zerbi - Brighton
Roberto De Zerbi admits the Seagulls are enduring a "tough period"

Brighton welcome Liverpool to The Amex on Super Sunday. Betfair writer Mark O'Haire is expecting an entertaining Premier League encounter...

Brighton 3.1511/5 picked up a historic point in midweek as the Seagulls got up and running in the Europa League. Fresh from a 6-1 thrashing at Aston Villa, Albion fans may have feared the worse after a collection of haphazard defending saw Roberto De Zerbi's side trail 2-0 to the Ligue 1 at half-time at the Stade Velodrome on Thursday evening.

But after the break Brighton came out fighting and the 2-2 stalemate was fully deserved on the basis of their second-half display. Pascal Gross halved the deficit before Joao Pedro levelled from the penalty spot in an archetypal game of two halves.

De Zerbi praised his players character post-match, although the Italian also admitted his Seagulls side are in a "tough period". He said:

"We are not playing so well like last season or one month ago. It's a tough period because we have to adapt. We have to play three games per week, every week, and we must improve and find solutions."

Liverpool 2.226/5 returned to action following last weekend's video assistant referee controversy in defeat at Tottenham with a routine 2-0 success over Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield in midweek.

Ryan Gravenberch received a standing ovation for his display having scored his first Reds goal, whilst Diogo Jota confirmed victory in stoppage-time.

Post-match, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was happy to pick up three points at Anfield but highlighted areas of improvement going forward, saying: "We had a really good start. Lost our rhythm slightly, gave too many set-pieces away. We played too much around the formation and in the formation. it was professional but we could have been better."

Klopp will now need to shuffle his pack with Jota and Curtis Jones suspended for Sunday. Cody Gakpo looks highly unlikely to feature having picked up an injury last weekend. Meanwhile, Brighton will now be without left-back Pervis Estupinan.

Expect entertainment at The Amex

Over 3.5 Goals is understandably trading at odds-on quotes of 1.8810/11. That line has been beaten in all seven of Brighton's Premier League fixtures this season, with Both Teams To Score also occurring on each occasion. Liverpool have delivered Over 2.5 Goals profit in six of their seven EPL encounters, with six also banking for BTTS backers.

Collectively, the two teams have kept a solitary clean sheet in their 14 league outings with the likes of Everton returning a better Expected Goals Against (xGA) figure at this stage of the season. However, the Seagulls have struck three goals or more in five of seven showdowns, whilst Liverpool have bagged multiple strikes in five matches of their own.
