Petra Kvitova is a professional tennis player who was born in Fulnek, Czech Republic, in 1990.

The biggest win of her career came in 2011 when she won her first and only Grand Slam to date at Wimbledon in London.
The left-handed player has been as high as second in the women's world rankings and has also tasted success in the end of season WTA Tour Championships, back in 2011.
As a youngster, her father introduced her to tennis, and she trained in her hometown of Fulnek.
Kvitova turned professional in 2008 at the age of just 16 and had early wins against Venus Williams and Anabel Medina Garrigues. She also made it through to the fourth round of the French Open in that year in her debut appearance at a Grand Slam.
A run into the quarter-finals of the 2008 Zurich Open helped her to move into the top 50 of the world rankings.
The Czech singles player's first title of her career arrived in 2009 at the Moorilla Hobart International. Wins over Alona Bondarenko, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Virginie Razzano and Iveta Benesova helped her to lift the trophy.
2011 was her breakthrough season and it started well for Kvitova as she won her second title early in the season in the Brisbane International. She had to overcome third seed Nadia Petrova and Pavlyuchenkova in Australia. The win helped her move up to 28 in the women's standings.
More success followed over the following few months but it was at Wimbledon that year where she landed the biggest prize of her career. She went into the grass court Grand Slam as the number eight seed and enjoyed playing on the surface in London. In the final she defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets for the win.
The big hitting European was awarded the WTA Player of the Year award in 2011 as she also won the end of season championships in Turkey. The competition was held in Istanbul and featured the best eight players in the world. Victoria Azarenka was her opponent in the final where Kvitova succeeded 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Following her win in the WTA Tour Championships, she helped Czech Republic lift the Fed Cup. A year later, they defended their crown to win back-to-back titles in the team competition.
Kvitova's team looked on course for a third Fed Cup in 2013 but were beaten in the semi-finals by Italy.
