Heather Watson is a British female tennis player, currently ranked third in the country and 133rd in the world. Born on 19th May 1992 in Guernsey, Watson started playing tennis at seven years of age, making the move to the United States to train and live at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida at the age of 12.

During a successful junior career, Watson won the US Open and gold at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games, reaching No. 3 in the world on the ITF Junior Circuit rankings, and earning her first senior women's world ranking on 27 July 2009, entering at number 756, winning her first senior title the same year at the Frinton $10,000 tournament.
Making her first Grand Slam appearance in the 2010 Wimbledon Championships, Watson followed that up by qualifying for the French Open the following year, reaching the second round in Paris. Another appearance at Wimbledon in the summer of 2011 was followed by a maiden appearance in the US Open draw.
On 16 July 2012 Watson became the top-ranked British senior woman player on the WTA rankings, replacing Anne Keothavong at the top of the UK rankings. On 14 October 2012, Watson won her first WTA singles title with a win over Chang Kai-chen in the Japan Open, becoming the first British female to win a WTA singles title since Sara Gomer in 1988.
Watson began 2013 in the top 50, reaching the third round of the 2013 Australian Open, losing to world number 4 Agnieszka Radwańska in straight sets. Watson's run in Melbourne saw her climb to a career-high world ranking of 40. After coming down with glandular fever before the French Open, Watson failed to really get going again after returning from the illness, losing in the first rounds of the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
A loss of form and her inactivity through illness resulted in Watson slipping down the rankings, ending the year outside the world top-100, something the Briton will be determined to improve in 2014.
Before the end of the year, Watson hired former British number one Jeremy Bates as her new coach, and the two will be hoping 2014 can see the youngster reclaim her place as Britain's number one female player and a top-50 player.
