Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki was born on July 11th 1990 in Odense, Denmark. As a junior she had considerable success, most notably winning the Junior Wimbledon title in 2006, and by 2007 she had turned into a fully-fledged professional player.

Wozniacki's playing style centres on a defensive style of tennis, with her anticipation and reactive movement key components of her game. She has a double-handed backhand, which is arguably her biggest asset; it has the ability to turn defence into offence in the blink of an eye. Her defensive style has led contemporaries to compare her with a counter-puncher.

2007 was a steep learning curve for the Dane as she tried to make the big step from junior to professional. She did manage to reach the semi-finals of the AIG Open in Tokyo, making her the first Danish woman to reach a WTA semi-final since 1986. 

Wozniacki announced herself in the tennis world in 2008. She reached the third round in the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, and in the US Open she reached the fourth round. She also won her first WTA Tour title at the Nordic Light Open in Stockholm, before ending the year as the 12th ranked female tennis player.

She managed her best Grand Slam performance in 2009 when she reached the US Open final. Still aged just 19, the Dane was beaten in straight sets by the veteran Kim Clijsters. In the French and Australian Open she reached the third round, while at Wimbledon she made it to the fourth round. In 2010 she managed to make it to the fourth round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon, the quarter-final of the French Open, and the semi-final of the US Open.

Since 2010, Wozniacki has established herself as a top 10 female tennis player; she is often seeded and regularly favoured by betting fans for title success. However, since 2011, when she reached the semi-finals of the Australian and the US Open, she has reached the quarter-final just once in her Grand Slam outings. In 2013 her best achievement was making the fourth round of the Australian Open.

In total the youngster has 21 titles to her name, 16 of which were won on the WTA Tour. She is also a renowned doubles player and has two double titles to her name. However, she would be the first to admit that she would much rather a Grand Slam victory than any of the WTA Tour titles she possesses. Once she wins a major tournament, she can rest easy.
