ATP World Tour Finals

The ATP World Tour Finals is an annual professional men's tennis tournament played in November at the O2 Arena in London on indoor hard courts. The ATP World Tour Finals is the traditional end-of-season showpiece tournament of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour, and has been sponsored by Barclays PLC since 2009. The tournament features the top eight singles players and doubles teams in the ATP Rankings. The current singles champion is Novak Djokovic, with Spanish pairing David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco the reigning doubles champions.

The event is the fourth version of an event that was first held in 1970. Originally known as the Masters Grand Prix as part of the Grand Prix Tennis Circuit, the tournament was organised by the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF) ITF. In 1990, the ATP took over the running of the men's tour, replacing the Masters with the ATP Tour World Championship. The name of the tournament changed again in 1999 to the Tennis Masters Cup, before again being renamed in 2009 to the ATP World Tour Finals - the fourth name the tournament has been known by since 1970.

Unlike the majority of the other events on the men's tour, the ATP World Tour Finals is not a straightforward knock-out tournament. The eight qualifying players are split into two groups of four before going on to play three round-robin matches each. The two players with the best records in each group progress to the semi-finals, with the winners meeting in the final to determine the champion. While it is mathematically possible for a player to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament after losing two round-robin matches, no player in the history of the singles tournament has won the title after losing more than one round-robin match.

Roger Federer has won the title more than any other player, winning the tournament on six occasions to break the record of five titles jointly held by Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras. Ivan Lendl holds the record for most consecutive appearances in the final with nine between 1980 and 1988, winning three of his four titles in consecutive years.

After first winning the tournament in 2008, Novak Djokovic defended his title in 2013 to win his third ATP World Tour Finals crown. Peter Fleming and John McEnroe are the tournament's most successful doubles pairing, winning seven consecutive titles between 1978 and 1984.
