Ana Ivanovic

Ana Ivanovic is a Serbian tennis player currently competing on the WTA Tour. Ivanovic reached the top of the WTA rankings in 2008, finishing 2013 at number-16. Ivanovic won her first and currently only Grand Slam title in the 2008 French Open, qualifying for the annual WTA Tour Championships twice (in 2007 and 2008) and has won the year-end WTA Tournament of Champions twice, in 2010 and 2011. This took her total number of WTA titles to 11.

After turning professional in 2003, Ivanovic's breakthrough came in the 2004 Zurich Open, narrowly losing out to Venus Williams in the second round. By the time she turned 18, Ivanovic had already recorded victories over the likes of Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova, Vera Zvonareva, and Amélie Mauresmo, the last of whom she defeated in the 2005 French Open on her way to reaching the quarterfinals in just her second Grand Slam appearance.

After reaching the final of the French Open and the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2007, Ivanovic went one better the following season, bouncing back from losing in the 2008 Australian Open final to win her first Grand Slam title at the French Open later that season, sealing the title in Paris with a straight sets victory over Dinara Safina.

Ivanovic suffered a dramatic slump in form following her French Open win, failing to make a Grand Slam quarterfinal in 18 of her subsequent 19 major tournaments, dropping down to world no. 65 in July 2010. Ivanovic's sole Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance since her 2008 French Open victory came at the 2012 US Open, losing to eventual champion Serena Williams.

After a tough few years, Ivanovic started climbing back up the rankings, reaching number 16 on the back of an encouraging 2013 season, despite failing to win a title since 2011. Now fully fit and free from injury, Ivanovic will be looking to get back into the world's top-10 during 2014.

When on form, Ivanovic is widely regarded as one of the Tour's most aggressive players, possessing one of the most formidable forehands in the game. A flat stroke, hit with not a lot of topspin, Ivanovic's forehand has been key to her success over the years. On the flip-side, however, the Serb's backhand is much weaker than her forehand has often been targeted by opponents as a way to keep the pressure on Ivanovic.
