DR Congo come here with their preparation potentially somewhat disrupted by events going on back at home. Whilst the Ebola outbreak in the country has not directly affected the players - they all play for clubs outside their home - some staff have ultimately been in the country and it remains to be seen whether this has impacted preparations. Portugal go into this as one of the tournament favourites, it's no surprise they are just 1/41.25 to win and as a result Over 2.5 goals is odds-on favourite at just 4/61.67. Over 2.5 goals has won in seven of Portugal's last nine competitive matches and it's no surprise that star man Cristiano Ronaldo has scored in six of his last eight competitive games. Combining both pays 23/202.15 and you'd be disappointed if there's three goals in the game and CR7 hasn't scored one of them. After all, he's scored a mammoth 143 times for the national side.

Two in-form sides take on each other in the opening match of Group L at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. England have won all of their last 10 competitive internationals, keeping a clean sheet in all 10, and Croatia have won seven of their last eight games. On neutral ground I don't want to back England at 4/61.67, particularly with the players in the squad having played the third most total minutes of all countries in the last 12 months. Croatia on the other hand have played more than 20,000 fewer minutes than Thomas Tuchel's men.
England have met Zlatko Dalic's Croatia twice in the last four major tournaments and they've both been tight battles finishing 1-0 and 1-1 after 90 minutes. With this being the opening group game with neither side wanting to give anything away in their toughest test, I can see this being another tight battle. Ten of the first 16 World Cup matches have finished Under 2.5 goals and that looks the bet here, taking the bet on the Betfair Exchange for the bigger price.
Ghana are 23/202.15 favourites but they come here winless in their last six games, losing five of them. They take on Panama somewhat unprepared having sacked manager Otto Addo in March and replaced him with 73 year-old veteran Carlos Queiroz who's overseen just one game in-charge with a 1-1 draw in Wales. In that they gave up 66% possession and 18 shots with the overall xG for both sides totaling 2.98. It's in keeping with previous matches as since the start of 2025, Ghana have seen one or zero goals in just three of 14 games.
For Panama in the same period, just five of their 23 matches have seen less than two goals and defensively they are susceptible having shipped six goals versus both Chile and Brazil. Both sides should see this as their easiest group game and therefore could play more front footed than the odds suggest. Backing goals on the Betfair Exchange Goals Lines market gives us the security of money-back if we only get two. That is my preferred approach here.
Iran. Uruguay. Belgium. Spain. Turkey. Brazil. Switzerland. Canada. We have already seen eight sides go off at odds-on and fail to win! So beware Colombia at 1/31.33. The common theme in those sides failing to win has been low scoring draws, with five of the eight finishing 1-1. The draw here pays 7/24.50 with 1-1 8/19.00. Can Uzbekistan cause an upset and prevent Colombia from winning?
The concern is coach Fabio Cannavaro has only been in-charge since October with the Uzbekistan hierarchy clamoring for a big name to lead them at their first ever World Cup. After spending most of his managerial career in China, his stock in Europe appears to have fallen having been sacked from his last three jobs and I feel a familiar theme could happen again here with so little preparation time. Across six matches this year they've conceded nine goals and in their two warmup defeats to Netherlands and Canada, they managed just 14 shots across the two. Colombia arrive here having won seven of their last 10 games, and can start their campaign with three points in a match unlikely to escalate goals-wise.
