Scottish Premiership referee Kevin Clancy
Kevin Clancy: Decent card history in the Edinburgh derby

After a 27/1 winner on Tuesday night, our football props column returns with an 11/1 pick for Wednesday evening's Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle.

Back when props betting was pretty much solely about goalscorers and player cards, it was the latter market which really interested me.

And when I first started freelancing, I can remember writing a cards column for my own website in bid to drum up some business!

It kind of worked - a couple of years later I was asked to work on this props column.

While I often focus more on shots and fouls these days, the cards remain of appeal and, in particular, I like to keep an eye on the big derby games around Europe, which often throw up some big card numbers.

Now, while the Edinburgh derby can't hold a flame to the Lisbon equivalent (I'm already excited about that one tomorrow night!), it's still match which often delivers for card backers.

Since fans returned post-COVID, the total card make-ups have been as follows: 5, 3, 9, 10, 7, 5, 4, 10, 4, 6, 2.

Leg 1: Alex Cochrane to be shown a card

The latest edition comes this evening at Tynecastle and we've got a decent referee in charge in Kevin Clancy - he's seventh of 19 when it comes to bookings in the Scottish Premiership, averaging exactly four yellows per game. He's also shown one red.

As for his history in this fixture, he's produced 23 cards in his five previous derbies. Not wild figures but decent nonetheless.

While 4/61.67 about 5+ cards looks a pretty solid Bet Builder option, my approach here is to raid the player-card market to grab a double-figure price.

The pair I like are the hosts' Alex Cochrane and the visitors' Lewis Miller.

Left-back Cochrane is Hearts' second most-fouled player on average this season, behind Cameron Devlin who's unlikely to start.

And his card record in the derby is impressive with four received in eight starts, including a red at Tynecastle on the final day of last season.

Leg 2: Lewis Miller to be shown a card

As for Miller, he's been carded in eight of his 25 starts so far this season.
With his raiding runs from right-back, he's also his side's second most-fouled player.

We've also got the added bonus of a potential flashpoint between the pair given they are set to be in direct opposition down that flank.

All things considered, 11/112.00 about both men finding their way into Mr Clancy's notebook looks worth a play.

Back Cochrane & Miller both to be shown a card @ 11/112.00
