Just four teams banked maximum points from the first two games of the new Premier League season.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea would have been fairly easy to guess but who in their right mind would have picked Hull as the other?

To give it context, it took Wolves 20 matches to hit the six-point mark last season. Hull, the massive favourites for relegation, have done it in just two.

There was plenty to admire in those victories over Manchester United and Coventry so perhaps they can keep picking up points before anyone notices!

Villa still pointless

Aston Villa's start to the campaign couldn't have been more different.

Weakened by a raft of big-name departures, they crashed to a 4-0 opening-day defeat at Brighton and then lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal. With zero points and a goal difference of -5 they're joint-bottom after two games with Spurs.

One of the big headlines was that Villa didn't even manage a shot on goal in those opening two defeats. It seems a particuarly damning stat.

A kinder take is that they were down to 10 men after just 40 minutes against Brighton and, quite frankly, they won't be the last team this season not to have a shot on target against the super-organised, rock-solid champions Arsenal.

Time for Villa to get off the mark

Hull are 3/14.00 to become the first promoted team since the Bolton side of 2001-02 to win their first three Premier League games. Yep, this is not normal.

Aston Villa are a shade of odds-on at 20/231.87 to get up and running with their first points of the season while The Draw is 27/103.70.

While Villa's triumphant Europa League squad has been gutted, they have made some exciting acquisitions and Unai Emery - one of the best managers in the top-flight - will enjoy getting this new iteration up to speed.

There's a sense that he might need a few pulls on the string to get the motor running but, despite Hull's strong start, this really is a golden opportunity to get off the mark.

Hull caught Manchester United cold and rather rode that momentum to beat a Coventry side which still looked shaken by the 3-0 opening-day defeat to Arsenal when they weren't even competitive.

Nicolas Jackson has the central striking role now Ollie Watkins has gone and Villa have the players to feed him.

Jackson knows his way around the Premier League after his time at Chelsea so back him to find the net in a Villa victory.

Defensive duo can double up

In terms of the shots market, a couple of defenders stand out.

Nobel Mendy has made a great impression since his move from Rayo Vallecano.

The Senegal defender scored on his debut in the win over Manchester United and also had a shot on target in the victory over Coventry.

He's a big threat from set-pieces.

For Villa, left-back Ian Maatsen managed a shot in the Brighton debacle and pulled the trigger twice against Arsenal.

The Dutchman is yet to test the goalkeeper but his forward ambition suggests it will happen soon.

Both to have an effort on target is around 14/115.00 and that's worth a go.
