Ryan Giggs is a Welsh professional footballer who has played for Manchester United since 1987 and has gone on to become one of the greatest players in the club's illustrious history.

In the early years of his career he played as a winger but more recently has also featured in the centre of midfield in a defensive role.
Over the years at Old Trafford, and in the Premier League, he has broken a number of records, including the most appearances in the competition.
The Welshman initially signed for Manchester City in 1985 and featured in their youth team for the next couple of years. However, he was spotted by a Manchester United scout and the Red Devils offered a deal to join their youth set-up.
He became a professional with the Red Devils on December 1st, 1990. The following March he made his league debut against Everton as a substitute in their 1-0 defeat.
Giggs soon made an impression on manager Sir Alex Ferguson and became a regular in the first team the following season.
In 1991 he won his first trophy with United: the UEFA Super Cup. His maiden league title arrived in 1993, the first of his 13 Premier League crowns.
In a career that has spanned 26 years so far at Old Trafford, he has lifted the FA Cup on four occasions and the League Cup on four occasions too.
He had to wait until 1999 to win the Champions League as Manchester United did so in dramatic style. They had to score two goals in the final stages of the game to overcome Bayern Munich. A second success in the premier European competition arrived in 2008 for Giggs. This time his side defeated domestic rivals Chelsea in the final.
Although Giggs has never appeared in a major international tournament, he has featured for Wales on 64 different occasions. All of these came before 2007, when he decided to concentrate solely on his club career. In 2012 he was invited to play for Great Britain in the Olympics on home soil and was named captain of the team.
The Welshman was honoured by the Queen in 2007 on her Birthday Honours List, Giggs receiving an OBE.
In 2009 he was named the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year in what proved to be another individual award for the Welsh wizard.
Along with still being part of the playing squad at United, he is also now on the coaching staff for new manager David Moyes.
