OFI v Lamia
Monday 08 January, 18:00
2024 isn't being kind to our pal Tobias so far, with yesterday's near-miss in Turkey a case in point. He correctly called a big Galatasaray win over Konyaspor, but the visitors drew a blank and nixed the bet.
As TG gets a well-deserved break (he's been manning the FBOTD fort while I've been sunning myself in Egypt), we'll kick off our year together with a trip to Greece. Out-of-form OFI Crete are up against Lamia, and the hosts seem far too short to me at evens.
OFI finished a creditable seventh in the Greek Super League last season, and they have had a solid five-year spell back in the top flight. It's worth remembering that OFI actually buckled under the weight of millions of euros of debts in 2015, and had to give up their professional status. It's been quite a comeback.
Former West Brom boss Pepe Mel is now at the OFI helm, but it's been a tough run of form. The Cretans have won just three of their 16 league games, and their last top-flight victory was in the first week of October. Since then OFI have collected just three points from nine games.
Lamia are five points and two places better off, and they just beat mighty Olympiakos 1-0. They have lost just six of their 16 league matches, and most of those losses have been against traditional big hitters.
I can't justify OFI being priced at evens here in the Match Odds market, so I'll happily lay them.
