Manchester City are the favourites to win the FA Cup in 2023 ahead of the start of the third round which will see them play Chelsea and holders Liverpool host Wolves...

Manchester City are the favourites to win the FA Cup in 2023 as Premier League teams prepare to enter the competition at the third round stage this weekend.

Pep Guardiola's men have only won the competition once in his tenure - they have won the Premier League and League Cup four times each in that time - and the Spaniard would love to lift the FA Cup again.

City host Chelsea, who they defeated 1-0 in the league last night, in the tie of the round on Sunday.

The west Londoners were last year's runners-up, missing out on penalties to Liverpool.

Chelsea look less savvy under new manager Graham Potter than they did under Thomas Tuchel and are 24.023/1 in the FA Cup outright winner market.

If they upset the odds and get past City, however, the price on them lifting the famous trophy for the ninth time in their history will crash.

Cup may be Liverpool's best chance of silverware

Liverpool won both domestic cups last season and are 8.415/2 to become the first team to win the FA Cup win consecutive seasons since Arsenal in 2015.

They are sixth in the Premier League and, while they are still in the Champions League, retaining cup would put some gloss on what has so far been a frustrating campaign for them.

Jurgen Klopp's men play Wolves, whose manager Julen Lopetegui steered Sevilla to Europa League glory, at Anfield tomorrow and our previewer thinks the Old Gold can test the holders.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have already won the FA Cup under Mikel Arteta (in 2020) and come next in the betting at 9.28/1.

But the Gunners are five points clear at the top of the Premier League and 2.8815/8 to win it for the first time since 2004. Having lifted the cup four times in the last decade, they may prioritise the title race.

Cup win could be just want Spurs or United need

Manchester United and Tottenham are both 10.09/1 to win the FA Cup and that may be an appealing price for either club.

The Red Devils begin their campaign against Everton tonight and, with United on a winning run and the Toffees in trouble, it's difficult to see beyond the home win.

There is a growing sense at Old Trafford that United are make steady progress under Erik ten Hag. The club are in the Premier League's top four, key players such as Marcus Rashford and Casemiro are performing well and the squad looks more coherent following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Winning a cup can be building block for further success, something that won't be lost on Ten Hag or Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

Conte won the FA Cup as manager of Chelsea in 2018 and Spurs fans would be delighted to win their first silverware since 2008.

A team that boasts Harry Kane and Son Heung-min can never be counted out and starting with a home tie against Portsmouth means the Lilywhites should ease into the fourth round.

Newcastle 13.012/1 are ones to watch too. They play Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and Eddie Howe would love to let everyone know that the Magpies really are back in the big time with a strong cup run.

Of course, the FA Cup has a rich history of surprises, so it could be that none of the teams mentioned here get there name on the famous trophy in 2023.

As it is, bettors are backing City to be celebrating come final day on 3 June.
