Dan Fitch has come up with a Bet Builder treble for Newcastle's televised clash with Tranmere, as he previews Wednesday's EFL Cup action.

Another win for Brighton

Forest Green 9.89/1 v Brighton 1.331/3; The Draw 5.14/1
Wednesday 24 August, 19:45

Brighton will be expecting to continue their assured start to the season when they travel to Forest Green on Wednesday.

On paper, a home game against Newcastle, sandwiched between away games at Manchester United and West Ham, looked like a difficult start. Brighton have risen to the challenge, taking seven points and only conceding one goal.

This is despite another summer in which Brighton have seen richer clubs poach their top players.

Brighton are exceptionally well run and always seem to be able to seamlessly replace departing stars with fresh new talent.

We should see some of their fringe players get a start against Forest Green, who are 20th in League One after four games (W1 D1 L2).

Leeds will claim derby victory

Leeds 1.241/4 v Barnsley 14.013/1; The Draw 6.25/1
Wednesday 24 August, 19:45

Leeds United are another Premier League side to have made an unbeaten start to the season and they now go into a Yorkshire derby against Barnsley.

After beating Wolves and drawing at Southampton, Leeds enjoyed their best performance of the fledgling season over the weekend, when they defeated Chelsea 3-0 at Elland Road.

Jesse Marsch will likely have one eye on the forthcoming trip to Brighton when he names his team and there will probably be starts for youngsters such as Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood.

Barnsley pulled off a shock with a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough in the last round, but have subsequently lost to Derby and Wycombe in League One.

Magpies will steal victory

Tranmere 14.527/2 v Newcastle 1.241/4; The Draw 5.95/1

The third unbeaten Premier League club to be involved in EFL Cup action on Wednesday night are Newcastle, who travel to League Two's Tranmere.

Newcastle were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City on Sunday and while they will have been disappointed to have let a two goal lead slip, the fact that they were so positive against the champions says much for the progress under Eddie Howe.

An expected summer spending spree has not materialised, but Howe still has plenty of experienced faces needing a game.

Tranmere are 17th in League Two and lost 2-1 at Newport over the weekend.

Cup win sees Bristol City find form

Wycombe 2.9215/8 v Bristol City 2.47/5; The Draw 3.4549/20
Wednesday 24 August, 19:45

The only game on Wednesday that doesn't feature a Premier League side, sees League One's Wycombe host Bristol City of the Championship.

After losing their first two games of the season, Bristol's City's form improved after a 4-1 win at Coventry in the last round of this competition.

They've since gone three games unbeaten in the Championship (W2 D1), beating Cardiff 2-0 at the weekend.

Wycombe have been in erratic form all season, with their 3-0 win at Barnsley on Saturday coming after two consecutive defeats. Take a cautious punt on Bristol City at 1.748/11 in the Draw No Bet market.
