USA vs Australia Tip - No luck for the Socceroos in Seattle

The USA produced an exceptionally dominant performance against Paraguay, sticking four past the previously resilient South Americans. Mauricio Pochettino's side were relentless, with 65% possession and firing six shots on target. It was an eye-catching start for the USMNT, and although they've been handed a favourable schedule venue-wise, it'll be interesting to see whether they can maintain those energy levels throughout the tournament.

Many predicted them to make hard work of breaking down the Paraguayans, and as it turns out, they were way off the mark. Australia will present a similar challenge, with Tony Popovic's hard-working outfit happy to absorb pressure and break effectively.

They allowed Turkey to muster 30 shots throughout the 90 minutes, yet the large majority of these came from distance. Popovic's teamtalk was effectively conducted by captain Hakan Calhanoglu, who dismissed the Socceroos pre-match. The media-trained Americans aren't likely to fall into that same trap.

The Aussies did look dangerous on the break, but they may struggle to fashion opportunities against the confident hosts, who will be playing in front of a partisan soccer-mad crowd in Seattle.

Pochettino will assess the fitness of Christian Pulisic ahead of KO with the AC Milan midfielder having been removed as a precaution at the break on Saturday morning. Even if they can get another 45 minutes out of the former Chelsea man, he will play a key role in helping his nation to make it two from two.

It may be the obvious angle, but it's hard to pick any player other than the in-form Folarin Balogun to notch for the USMNT and make it three goals in his first two appearances.

Scotland vs Morocco - Atlas Lions to edge out the Tartan Army

Friday, 23:00 Live on ITV

The 'No Scotland, No Party' chant has become one of the stories of the 2026 World Cup so far, and Steve Clarke's men are likely to be roared on by a healthy following in Foxborough on Friday night. The Scots picked up their first tournament win since 1990, and although it may be enough to see them qualify for the round of 32, it wasn't an entirely convincing performance.

Scott McTominay struck the post and John McGinn kept his composure when required, but there were plenty of nervy moments at the back as Haiti produced a spirited second-half display.

This will be a tougher task and picking up a point will be considered a success for Steve Clarke's troops. Morocco held Brazil to a 1-1 draw and will be confident of picking up their first success in Group C. The Atlas Lions were unremitting in the first half, exploiting the gaps in the Brazilian midfield, however, they struggled to maintain that tempo once Carlo Ancelotti had managed to plug those gaps.

The North Africans are exceptionally dangerous in wide areas with Brahim Diaz and Achraf Hakimi capable of causing destruction. Clarke may use Brazil's second half display as a blueprint to effectively thwart the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists.

Nevertheless, I believe that they will have enough quality to eventually make the breakthrough, although it won't be pretty.

Brazil vs Haiti - Vinicius to push Haiti closer to a World Cup exit

As expected, Brazil found it tough against Morocco in their Group C opener, yet they produced an encouraging second half display. Crucially, Carlo Ancelotti was able to react to the setup issues and alter the formation to limit the Atlas Lions after the break. Nevertheless, it was far from a vintage performance and there is still plenty of work to do.

Brazil have drifted out to 10/111.00 in the World Cup winner market, and they must significantly improve their displays if they are to reach the latter stages of the tournament.

Defensively, they appear to be fairly suspect, yet they still have plenty of matchwinners in their squad including Vinicius Jr, who clearly enjoys working under Ancelotti. The Real Madrid wideman wasn't heavily involved in the first fixture, yet he still managed to get his name onto the scoresheet and is likely to find more joy against Haiti.

Igor Thaigo and Raphinha both struggled to get into the game and it may require something special from the 25-year-old superstar to unlock the Haiti backline.

Haiti committed 23 fouls against Scotland, resulting in a stop-start contest. Other underdogs Curacao and Cape Verde committed just 11 and 1 fouls respectively. They may be forced to resort to illegal measures to halt the Brazilian juggernaut and it may be worth backing them to concede a penalty at some point during the 90 minutes.

Turkey vs Paraguay - Montella's men to bounce back in Santa Clara

Saturday, 04:00 Live on ITV

Turkey boss Vincenzo Montella apologised to the fans and admitted that his gameplan wasn't executed well enough against Australia. He suggested that he will stick with similar tactics here, and he believes that his side will eventually be rewarded for their patience.

With an xG of 1.36, 72% possession and 30 shots, eight of which landed on target, Turkey certainly didn't struggle to carve out opportunities last weekend, however, their finishing left plenty to be desired. They are likely to make a fast start here, and as the USA demonstrated, Paraguay struggled to deal with early pressure.

The South American outfit will look to get back to basics after their humbling in the opening group game. They struggled to get any sort of foothold against the US, and managed just a single shot on target. If Turkey can keep hold of the ball, and improve their finishing, they should be able to clinch their first World Cup success since 2002.
