Netherlands at 7/101.70 is really tempting here but the way they twice threw away the lead against Japan in a game that finished in a 2-2 draw and the world class strikeforce that Sweden bring in Victor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, means it has to be goals that are backed here. Especially with Sweden in such good form against Tunisia where they plundered five!
Netherlands themselves have scored two or more goals in five of their last six competitive games, three or more in four of them! Sweden can be got at defensively, they really lack protection in behind their midfield, an area Tunisia regularly found themselves in, and that's shown in the fact that the Swede's last five games have seen both teams score. It's now 15 of the Netherlands last 21 that have seen Over 2.5 goals (71%) and for Sweden it's 19 of their last 26 matches with three or more goals (73%). Bring on the goals!
A really intriguing contest here. Germany are 1/21.50 to win and despite the Ivory Coast having kept eight clean sheets in their last 11 competitive games, they could easily have conceded three against Ecuador with the South American's hitting the woodwork three times when more than once it seemed easier to score! I think that's reflected in the price of goals though, as coupled with Germany's open-ness, Over 2.5 goals is just 6/101.60.
As a result, I want to back a German player to find the scoresheet and I think their main striker and penalty taker Kai Havertz is worth a bet at 11/82.38 to score anytime. He's got 22 goals in 58 caps but seems to be flourishing under Julian Nagelsmann with 11 goals in 19 starts under the current manager. With Betfair's Safe Sub, we've also got great options off the bench if Havertz is replaced, with Denis Undav already bagging six goals in just nine caps and Nick Woltemade scoring in his last three competitive appearances.
Back Kai Havertz anytime goalscorer
A really tricky betting heat here given Ecuador are just 1/101.10 to win! And let's remember, Ecuador are not a team full of goals. Despite finishing second in the qualifying group, they scored just 14 goals in 18 games and six of those came against Bolivia (43%). Outside of qualifying they scored three against Guatemala when 1/51.20, two against Saudi Arabia when 4/91.44 and two against New Zealand when 1/31.33. They are just 6/42.50 to score Over 3.5 goals here.
In Curacao's 7-1 defeat to Germany, they conceded 4.22 expected goals (3.43 non-penalty xG) from 26 shots. It's not in keeping with Ecuador's style to go out and blitz the opposition, they are very much a defence first side, borne out by only conceding five in qualifying but I wonder if they are a couple of goals up, whether this is an opportunity to go out and score more given qualification could come down to goal difference. Given all the odds are weighted towards a high scoring Ecuador victory and clearly there is the potential for the game to follow something similar to what Curacao served up in round one, I'm going to sensibly sit this one out rather than chase a big win to find a price.

Tunisia swiftly fired manager Sabri Lamouchi after their comprehensive 5-1 defeat by Sweden and replaced him with legendary international manager Herve Renard who takes charge of his ninth national team. It couldn't be much more a tougher first test than against a dynamic and fluid Japan side who are 1/21.50 to win. The same Japan side that beat Spain and Germany at the last World Cup but also lost to Costa Rica.
Let's remember this is the same Herve Renard who masterminded Saudi Arabia's 2-1 victory over Argentina at the last World Cup. He will probably start with an hold-and-counter approach but given the Netherlands are their remaining game and their goal difference is in need of replenishment, they'll likely have to open up at some point. And look, they are not that great at defending anyway having shipped 10 goals in their last two games alone. 11 of their last 19 games have seen Over 2.5 goals (58%) and for Japan it's now 16 of their last 24 competitive matches that have landed three or more goals winners (67%). I've really surprised Under 2.5 goals is favourite, especially given round two tends to see an increase in goals, given more jeopardy and the fact the World Cup is already averaging 3.13 goals per-game after round one.
