Kulusevski - Premier League's chief creator
Dejan Kulusevski is a phenomenal talent - and one that is only getting better under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou.
He has quietly gone about his business in this exciting Spurs transition yet Kulusevski's numbers across key attacking metrics are outrageous, showcasing just how much he is thriving playing in this Postecoglou revolution.
No Premier League player has covered as much distance as the winger this season (184.8km) or had more touches in the opposition box (141) - that is 15 more than any other player.
But what about when he gets the ball? What's his output been like?
Well, the best in the Premier League according to the amount of chances created from open play where he leads the charts there too with 36 - more than Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah.
That he's only registered one assist this season from that tally is a severe underperformance and the expected assist data backs that up with the quality of chances offered up equating to 3.48 worth of assists, according to Opta's model.
His positional play really caught my eye in Tottenham's dismantling of Newcastle as it seems Postecoglou is negating the loss of creativity from James Maddison's injury by playing a front four with Kulusevski given instruction to play as a second striker - almost in a free role. Somehow, he failed to register a goal or assist on Sunday despite having two shots on target and creating four chances for his teammates.
A player of his intelligence and skill won't be kept quiet for long on the goal involvement front. Keep him in your thoughts for when the goals and assist markets form for Spurs' trip to Nottingham Forest on Friday night.
Switching roles - how to profit...
Latching onto a player switching positions can open up great betting opportunities in player prop markets. Significant value can be snapped up if you can react quicker and smarter than the traders, who perhaps have their eyes elsewhere on more liquid markets.
Tomas Soucek was a prime example of this where he returned to playing a more advanced role for David Moyes and his shots and goals prices across the Betfair Sportsbook were outstanding for many weeks. That avenue has now been closed, partly due to a cut in his prices but also his hot streak in front of goal inevitably coming to an end.
It's not just attacking based switches of positions where value can be gobbled up - players can see their numbers spike in other areas too where markets are available.
A great current example is centre-back turned defensive midfielder Chris Richards at Crystal Palace, who was outstanding in their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool. He did some important work in front of his back four, acting as the destroyer where he made four tackles and was yellow carded for a cynical foul in the second half.
Now, his recent data playing centre-back for Hoffenheim and Palace has him making 0.56 fouls per 90 minutes and his yellow card chances rated at just 7% over that sample size. This will result in the algorithm used for pricing up his fouls committed and yellow card chances spitting out bigger prices than the true probability of a player in that position making fouls and picking up yellow cards.
Palace go to Manchester City next weekend. He will be overpriced across both markets. Just don't tell the traders.
