Brighton v Aston Villa Tips - Fouls a foot

Aston Villa were the most fouled side in the division last season (12.4 per game), and Sunday's hosts Brighton ranked fourth for fouls committed (11.9).

In last season's two league meetings, the Seagulls committed 25 fouls to the Villans 18, winning the foul count on both occasions.

This one doesn't take a genius and if the team to commit the most fouls market becomes available, Brighton will be worth a look.

Luka Vuskovic's prices in the player fouls market are the bet though. He was signed this summer from Tottenham, Jan Paul van Hecke went the other way and it looks like he'll be replacing the Dutchman in the heart of defence.

Last season, van Hecke committed two fouls in each of his two appearances against Villa battling against the tireless Ollie Watkins. I'm hoping Vuskovic picks up the mantle.

He averaged 0.92 fouls per 90 across two seasons in the Belgian Pro League and German Bundesliga. That output should increase as he adapts to the top-flight where he'll be competing against top-notch frontmen on a weekly basis.

If pre-season's anything to go by - bit of a stretch I know - Vuskovic's foul average is already on the rise. He committed seven fouls (3/4) in two appearances against Roma and Bologna despite playing a combined total of 111 minutes. He was also carded against Tromsø on Thursday.

At 9/52.80 and 7/18.00 respectively, Vuskovic's prices to commit 2+ fouls and 3+ fouls appeal.

Manchester City v Bournemouth Tips - Cherries on top?

In my pre-season assessment of the Premier League, I put an asterisk next to Bournemouth's name. They could be in trouble.

See, they're part of a cluster of teams who have a new manager, which are also competing in Europe.

Given the club's lack of resources, compared with the likes of Sunday's opponents Manchester City, this is a red flag for regression.

Just ask Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Crystal Palace, who all dropped down the division after making Europe, as they struggled to juggle the demands of continental football with the top flight. Even clubs of a bigger stature, see Spurs and Manchester United, dropped considerably in the seasons after qualifying for Europe.

What sets the Cherries further apart is the fact this will be their first ever season in Europe. It could make for a tough campaign for Marco Rose but I'll reserve judgement until Autumn, once the gruelling Thursday/Sunday takes hold.

Besides, this is an ideal time to play the Cityzens.

Pep Guardiola called time after a decade at the Etihad, but in the like-minded Enzo Maresca, the club will be hoping the dynasty continues.

This is a man they've had earmarked as Pep's successor for a few seasons. Since leaving the club, Maresca cut his teeth at Leicester, winning the Championship title, and Chelsea before returning to Manchester this summer.

Replacing Bernardo Silva, Rodri and John Stones is his most pressing task, three stalwarts of Pep's era. And if the 3-0 Community Shield defeat is anything to go by, Maresca has his work cut out.

City infamously struggled without Rodri and with a +1.0 & +1.5 headstart on the Asian handicap, I think the visitors are worth chancing at 1.9010/11 with the Betfair Exchange here.

It'll be a full stakes winner if Bournemouth get a result, a half stake winner if they lose by one goal and a loss if City win by two goals or more.

Newcastle vs Liverpool Tips - Basement boys battle

There's been a changing of the guard at Newcastle this summer. Eddie Howe, the man tasked with bringing the Magpies into their new era, has been replaced by Matthias Jaissle.

Howe brought Champions League football back to St James' Park and ended the 70-year trophy drought. But he struggled to balance European commitments with domestic duty and probably misjudged too many big money signings.

I'm not going to pretend I know much about new man Jaissle but the fact he has already tempered expectations is revealing, he's called this a 'transitional phase' and said the club is a 'vacuum' after this summer's mass exodus.

Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier have all left the club. So, improving on last season's 12th place finish looks a tall order. Tightening up the defence is probably a good place to start, Newcastle conceded 55 times in the league last term.

Having said all that, this is probably the perfect time to play Liverpool.

They've had a change in the dugout ahead of the new season as well. Arne Slot's out and ex-Bournemouth gaffer Andoni Iraola's in.

How the new man adapts to managing a club of this stature remains to be seen. The expectation at Anfield will be a lot higher compared to his previous roles at the Cherries and Rayo Vallecano.

Iraola will also have to try and correct a couple seasons worth of squad mismanagement. Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold last season, and Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate this season.

Like Newcastle, Liverpool shipped a lot of goals last term (53), as did Iraola's former club Bournemouth (54), so there could be a few goals here.

With the price about both teams to score or over 2.5 goals predictably short, the best way in looks to be via the to score or assist market.

Florian Wirtz had a hand in eight goals in the top-flight last season, all of which came in his last 16 starts. He scored and assisted a goal the last time these two squared off and has a career goals+assists per 90 average of 0.63.

There's no denying he struggled in his first season in England following a big money move from Germany, but with a good pre-season under his belt, Wirtz should show his class this campaign.
