Celtic once again left with European regrets

It's hard to get away from the fact that Celtic have looked seriously off the pace in the Champions League group stage.

While you could argue that in some games they were very competitive (they drew at home to Atletico Madrid, and could have beaten Lazio before slipping to an agonising 2-1 home defeat), they were drubbed in Madrid and Eindhoven, and they also went down pretty meekly in Rome.

Celtic also struggled in Europe under previous manager Ange Postecoglou, and their continental shortcomings are all the more painful when you consider that Old Firm rivals Rangers reached a Europa League final just two seasons ago, only losing on penalties in the showpiece to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bhoys are out of European competition with a game to spare, and that doesn't reflect well on boss Brendan Rodgers.

Things aren't entirely smooth domestically either. Celtic were dumped out of the League Cup by Kilmarnock earlier in the campaign, and they lost at the same opponents in the league at the weekend. Rangers are only five points adrift with a game in hand, and new boss Philippe Clement seems to have found the magic touch. The Old Firm derby at the end of this month could prove a pivotal moment.

Celtic have become the first British club in history to go 15 group-stage games without a victory, and they have gone 12 Champions League home matches without success. Another failure on Wednesday night would see the Glasgow giants equal the record set by Lille and Romanian side FCSB.

Celtic are expected to be without injured trio Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Liel Abada. Cameron Carter-Vickers could return after a hamstring injury, while Kyogo Furuhashi is pushing for a recall at centre-forward.

Feyenoord can look forward to UEL tilt

Under enterprising coach Arne Slot, Feyenoord have not only become Dutch champions, but they have developed a reputation for European success. They reached the final of the Europa Conference League two seasons ago, only losing to Jose Mourinho's Roma, and last term they were beaten in the quarter-finals of the Europa League by the same opponents.

In the Champions League this season, Slot's men managed good home wins against Celtic and Lazio, but lost narrowly in Madrid and Rome. The killer was a 3-1 home defeat to Atleti, which meant Feyenoord couldn't progress in this competition, but were guaranteed a Europa League berth after Christmas.

While Feyenoord certainly haven't disgraced themselves at this level, domestically they have been caught off guard by the brilliance of Peter Bosz's PSV. The Eindhoven club have won all 15 of their games in the Eredivisie, including a 2-1 success against the champions in Rotterdam, which means Slot's side are now ten points drift in the title race.

Feyenoord forward Alireza Jahanbakhsh is a doubt with injury, while Quilindschy Hartman is definitely out with concussion. Although Feyenoord have no pressing need to take points from this game, there is precious prize money up for grabs, so Slot is expected to field a strong side.

Goals should flow at Celtic Park

Three of Feyenoord's five UCL games have featured at least three goals, and they have scored at least once in 18 of their last 19 competitive matches. Celtic's home games in the UCL have both featured at least three goals, and they have conceded at least twice in every group game.

I'll back Over 2.5 Goals, Over 7.5 Corners and Kyogo to have a shot on target at 2.77/4 on the Bet Builder. The Japanese striker has had a shot on target in each of Celtic's two home matches in the group stage. Indeed, he scored in both games.

Super Santi can find the net

With 20 goals already across the Eredivisie and the Champions League, Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez is having a super season. He fired Feyenoord to the title last term, and looks an attractive price to score here at 2.47/5. The 22-year-old has scored five goals across his last three appearances, and his term he has scored a hat-trick against Ajax and a brace against Lazio.
