Burnley beat Premier League leaders who touch [1.01] when holding a 1-0 lead.
Playing in front of their home fans and with a 1-0 advantage over Championship outfit Burnley, Chelsea were the original 'sure things' for Betfair punters last night, who backed the Blues at [1.01] to qualify for the next round, albeit to small sums.
But Burnley, of course, threw a spanner in the works, Ade Akinbiyi's second half goal snuffing out Didier Drogba's opener to force extra time and penalties, which they won 5-4.
There will be many backers praising Sky for not televising the match otherwise the sums traded at the exchange's basement price would have been far higher than they were.
The match has striking similarities of 2005, when Chelsea were downed by Charlton at Stamford Bridge. The Blues held a 1-0 lead that night but were pegged backed by a Darren Bent goal, before losing 5-4 on penalties.
So last year's beaten finalists are out and the current betting is led by Manchester United on [3.0], followed by Arsenal at [3.9]. Burnley can be backed at [48.0] to lift the trophy.
