Wayne Rooney killed off Milan with two excellent goals
"Darren Fletcher arrived at the far post in the 88th minute to head in the fourth, round off Milan's humiliation and signal to the rest of Europe that United's Champions League aspirations are as serious as ever."
United striker returns from injury to ruin Beckham's night out at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Madrid crash out at home to Lyon...
Manchester United's bid to reach a third consecutive Champions League final remains on course after they won the second leg of their second round tie against AC Milan at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side, who are now [5.4] to win the Europe's biggest prize this season, traded at [1.83] on their way to a comfortable 4-0 (7-2 agg) win. Wayne Rooney again made the difference, scoring two goals, as he did in the first leg.
Rooney's first goal came after 12 minutes when he headed in from Gary Neville's perfect cross. Milan had their chances in the remainder of the half, Klaas Jan-Huntelaar missed from close range, but when Rooney latched on to Nani's exquisite cross to lift the ball past Christian Abiatti a minute after the break, the tie was effectively over.
That did nothing to temper Ji-Sung Park's delight as he fired the ball into the far corner of the Milan net after a patient build-up and precision pass from Paul Scholes. Darren Fletcher arrived at the far post in the 88th minute to head in the fourth, round off Milan's humiliation and signal to the rest of Europe that United's Champions League aspirations are as serious as ever.
One team who won't feature in this year's final at the Bernabeu are Real Madrid. Despite bolstering their squad in the summer with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, Real are out after drawing their second leg 1-1 at home to Lyon.
The Spanish side came into the second leg a goal down but when Ronaldo put them ahead early on it looked as though Lyon would be in for a torrid night. But Madrid wasted chance after chance and were punished in the second half when Miralem Pjanic's goal made it 1-1 on the night and 1-2 on aggregate. Real have now failed to make the last eight of the Champions League for six years in a row.

Roneey again dragged a clueless Man U into yet another victory. No wonder all the comments are on ROONEY! the player is talented yes, but it kills the concept of 11-man-team. we should go to the game hoping Rooney will not score more than 50% of the goals or else the side will be predictable and boring to watch. To me, Man U is not the best TEAM in the world, but its lucky to have ONE exceptional player
