  • Speculation he could ride at Ascot and Epsom in 2024

  • Jockey not "ready to let go" of brilliant career

Frankie Dettori is 1/81.12 to ride at Royal Ascot 2024 after he postponed his planned retirement and said he would be riding in the US in the New Year.

The 52-year-old was expected to hang up his whip after a season that saw him win the 2,000 Guineas, the Oaks and York Ebor.

What are the odds on Dettori riding winners in 2024?

Dettori still says that he will say goodbye to British racing on Champions Day at Ascot on 21 October.

But Betfair have opened markets on the chances of him being in the saddle at the big meetings in 2024 and make him 2/13.00 to win a Group 1 next season.

He is 12/113.00 to win a British Classic.

Dettori said on Thursday: "I don't feel ready to let go yet. I'm going to spend some time in the USA and take it from there. I could be there three months or three years, I don't know."

That sounds like a man who can't bring himself to walk away from a sport that has seen him ride more than 3,300 winners.

It makes sense that he is heavy odds-on to ride at Ascot's five day Flat racing extravaganza next June.

The three-time Champion Jockey is 2/13.00 to ride in the Derby at Epsom - a race he has won twice.

What price is Dettori to win SPOTY?

Dettori was beaten to the Leading Jockey prize at Royal Ascot this year by Betfair ambassador Ryan Moore but Dettori is a contender for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.

He has, however, drifted to 12/113.00 and trails Mary Earps and Ben Stokes in the Betfair Sportsbook market. He is out to 34.033/1 on the Betfair Exchange having been the early market leader in the first half of the year.

Whatever happens with SPOTY, today's announcement means Dettori's race looks far from run and the odds indicate that it would be no surprise to see him in the big races next summer.
