'Hot Trainer' William Haggas is always worth noting with his runners at northern tracks and Fast Performer, who goes in the nursery, is one of a couple of runners he's sending up to Carlisle from Newmarket.

Fast Performer has had just the two qualifying runs, the better of those coming on his debut when second in a maiden at Nottingham where he split a couple of next-time-out winners.

Fast Performer disappointed when odds-on to go one better in a novice at Newmarket next time, but he's worth another chance going into nurseries, heading the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.

There are a couple of runners in Carlisle's handicap over the extended seven furlongs carrying penalties for successes gained last week, and preference is for three-year-old filly Zermatt Star who won at Ripon.

She failed to trouble the judge in her first four starts in Ireland with Jessica Harrington but was much improved on just her third start for Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood when springing a 40/1 surprise last week.

The application of first-time cheekpieces evidently made a big difference, while an end-to-end gallop probably helped too. She heads the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings and can follow up under her penalty.

Viking Glory is another horse who was evidently transformed by first-time cheekpieces on his latest start, and there should be more to come from James Owen's gelding now that connections have figured him out.

Beginning his career with Adrian Keatley, he then started off being campaigned as a sprinter by his current yard without much reward, but a change of headgear and the step up to seven furlongs paid off at Brighton.

The first two finished clear of the rest there, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Viking Glory improve further for his capable yard, especially now that he's stepping up another furlong in trip.
