An early-season busy Saturday for Paul Nicholls who sends out 12 runners across three cards on the afternoon, and he has high hopes of a good few winners...
- Paul says Him Malaya will take all the beating
- Believes Saturday's race an ideal starting point for Pic D'Orhy
- Rates Silent Revolution as his best chance of a winner
Newton Abbot
Has to start somewhere and we'll learn from this
13:10 - Ivaldi
We have to start him somewhere and this race looks quite competitive with three previous winners taking part. We don't really know yet where we are with Ivaldi who won a four-year-old conditions race at Fontainebleau in March on his hurdling debut. He has done plenty of work though it's hard to be sure about his best trip given his inexperience. Hopefully we will learn plenty.
Schooled well and will enjoy the ground
13:45 - Don Alvaro
He was successful over hurdles at Taunton in the spring and should be a fun horse in novice chases at around three miles on West Country tracks. Don Alvaro has schooled well over fences at home, will enjoy the ground at Newton Abbot and has his chance in an open race that has only attracted four runners.
Will sharpen up for the outing
14:20 - Time To Tinker
He is another good, fun horse who will be going novice chasing after this run at Newton Abbot. I suspect both he and Grace A Vou Enki are bound to sharpen up for the outing. Time To Tinker won twice over hurdles last season despite some indifferent jumping and should progress over fences.

Yala Enki's half-brother is useful in ideal conditions
14:20 - Grace A Vou Enki
Although Harry Cobden has chosen to ride Gave A Vou Enki there is not much between the pair of them. He is a half-brother to our prolific winning chaser Yala Enki and unlike him seems to want better ground. He was quite useful over hurdles last season when he got his ideal conditions.
Going well at home and will take all the beating
14:55 - Him Malaya
He is a full brother to our very useful mare Malaya who won five races including the Imperial Cup. Him Malaya did plenty of pre-training in France before joining and looks ideal for the new three-year-old NH novice hurdles that have been introduced this season. He is going well at home, jumps and does everything nicely. I'd say he will take all the beating unless he runs into a really smart one.
Will improve for outing for jockey having his first ride for us
15:30 - Sabrina
She is not the biggest to carry 11st 12lbs so it makes sense to use the 10lbs claim of Freddie Gingell who is having his first ride for us as a conditional jockey. He knows her well as he sits on her most days at home. Sabrina tends to need her first run of the season so whatever she does I'd imagine she will improve for the outing. She likes soft ground and I'm hoping this race puts her spot on for the Richard Barber Memorial Hurdle at Wincanton on November 5.
Ideal starting point for potential smart chaser
16:05 - Pic D'Orhy
I've had this Intermediate Chase in mind for him since the start of the season. We won it a year ago with Bravemansgame and it looks an ideal starting point for Pic D'Orhy who is among my favourites. While things haven't always gone to plan he has what is takes to be a smart chaser as he showed with a great round of jumping when winning the Pendil at Kempton. He is up to a handicap mark of 153 but will enjoy the flat track at Newton Abbot and there are definately more races to be won with him if we place him right.
Schooling has been very good and he's very exciting
16:35 - Silent Revolution
He is a lovely horse and was no surprise that he took to hurdling like a duck to water as he has always jumped well at home. He was successful on his hurdles debut at Newbury before a splint issue that kept him on the sidelines until Cheltenham where we rather chucked him in the deep end in the Supreme Novice. Back in calmer waters he returned to form at Chepstow in April. His schooling over fences at home has been very good and I think he could be exciting over fences.

Nice prospect who shows plenty at home
17:10 - Mullins Bay
He is an interesting recruit, a half brother to Silver Hallmark who once beat McFabulous over hurdles at Chepstow. He is a nice prospect by Kayf Tara and shows plenty at home, but like all my bumper horses making their debuts he will improve for the run. Because of the dry ground in the spring we couldn't take any of our youngsters away for a racecourse gallop.

Market Rasen
Conditions to suit and is ready to go
15:37 - Tamaroc Du Mathan
He has done well considering he has always had issues with his breathing. We gave him a wind op after he was pulled up at Aintree in October and he bounced back with a pleasing win in the £50,000 Sussex Champion Chase at Plumpton in May. While he is 3lbs higher now off a mark of 143 he is ready to go and I'm hopeful of a tidy run with trip and ground in his favour on a flat track.

Stratford
On a winning run and should again go well
14:14 - Huelgot
He is an improving young horse, has won his last two starts and is up 6lbs to a career high mark of 112. He should again run well in this slightly more competitive race.
Hoping he is a lot better on the track
15:24 - Hermes Allen
I don't know too much about Hermes Allen who was bought by Aidan Murphy at Cheltenham shortly after he stayed on strongly to win an Irish maiden Point-to-Point last November. We then did a bit with him before putting him away for the summer. Hermes Allen jumps well but he is workmanlike at home, doesn't show a great deal, and seems to want decent ground. I'm sure he will be a lot better on the track.

Best Chance:
Silent Revolution - 16:35 Newton Abbot. He jumps like a natural and has solid prospects of making a winning debut over fences.
