horse racing action
Today's tip alert runs at Bath.

It's Wednesday! Daryl Carter is here to talk you through today's racing, highlight some notable market moves and has a strong fancy at Bath.

"Now race-fit, the step up to 1m looks a good source of improvement, and he has some very strong form to his name from the back end of last season."

Racing today comes from Thirsk, Worcester, Musselburgh, Tipperary, Kempton and Bath.

Musselburgh racecourse 1280x720.jpg

Trainer Dr Richard Newland has a 24% strike rate at Worcester and today introduces a once useful 86 rated flat recruit, Galsworthy, to obstacles for the first time in the 16:50 Novice contest. He could be one to keep an eye on going forward.

Musselburgh has a tricky card for punters, but the 15:30 Visit Handicap looks like a cracking feature race despite the small field.

Backing high draws blind at Musselburgh over the years would have returned a profit of £18.88 to a £1 level stake over sprint trips, so that's a possible angle for the highly competitive 16:35.

Race watch alert!

The 14:45 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Thirsk may only look like a run of the mill midweek Novice contest, but the race has produced some very useful horses in the past.

The last four winners of the race have all gone on to be rated higher than 88, but the last two have produced Montather (97) and Ilaraab (111).

Also at Thirsk, the 13:35 British Stallion Studs EBF Restricted Novice Stakes has been a race that has eluded trainer Michael Dods who has failed to win the race in ten attempts. He has the second favourite in today's race who is coming in for support.

Dettori out for more midweek money?

Frankie Dettori 1280 x720.png

I mentioned on Friday that Frankie Dettori is not usually seen midweek, and following him can seek out a profit. He's at Kempton today and has two rides, one for Charlie Appleby, for who he has only ridden once before, and one for John and Thady Gosden.

His rides are 17:35 Before Dawn and the superbly bred sister to Frankel Chiasma at 18:35.

Tip Alert

It was a highly encouraging return run from Zoffarelli on the back of a gelding operating at Sandown, and he looks worth siding with to pick up the winning thread at Bath in the 19:25 Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Blaythwayt Plate Handicap.

He receives 10lbs from his elders along with Siam Fox, who may have done his winning for now, and the other two three-year-olds look as though they are out form.

Now race-fit, the step up to 1m looks a good source of improvement, and he has some very strong form to his name from the back end of last season.

With this just his seventh career start, it won't be long before he gets his back head in front, and he is fully expected to take a step forward here.

Race of the day

Lots of action to choose from today, with some excellent races all over the place, but Kempton has a cracker. The 19:05 Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap looks a good one to get stuck into.

Rodrigo Diaz has improved leaps and bounds with each start. Only the useful and subsequent Royal Ascot Edinburgh Stakes fifth Aaddeey lowered his colours on seasonal return.

That is his second defeat on the back of a break, so it was good to see him put to bed a good class four field next time to continue his improvement.

He is three for five on the all-weather, including here, and now naturally takes a step up in class. He still looks very well treated off this handicap mark of 89 and is drawn well in a race with plenty of pace, so he must go close.

Taqareer hasn't progressed as quickly as connections would have liked, but he still holds some very strong handicap form at this level, and he bumped into a useful improver last time over course and distance.

It may not be the handicap mark against him, but the trip may not be seeing him to the best effect, and he looks vulnerable at the finish over 1m4f.

The switch back to the all-weather off of this falling handicap mark could spark Wait Forever back into life.

He is dangerously well-handicapped on old form and shaped as though he was coming to the boil when denied a clear run at Haydock last time in a race that has worked out well.

He poses the biggest threat to Rodrigo Diaz.

Stat of the day

+£91.08 the £1 level stake profit made if backing Harry Dunlop runners ridden by Jim Crowley. Today he rides Gentleman At Arms 20:05 Kempton.

An across the card double for Nick today as he goes in search for Wednesday's wedge

Our tipster Nick Shiambouros is hoping to double-up with selections from Thirsk and Kempton today.

Final Word

Devastating news yesterday as we lost one of the sports most admirable National Hunt horses in Lil Rockerfeller.

Lil Rockerfeller was a warrior in his day, known as a horse that will leave it all on the track and give everything for his jockey and connections. You couldn't help but love him, and if you were a punter, you were always hoping that he wouldn't be upsides you after the last.

It's absurd that none of the mainstream media has reported or paid tribute to such a fan-favourite horse.

Until tomorrow, be lucky.
