Today's Racing News: Punters at Kempton hoping for the luck of the Irish as cash piles in on Legend

Kempton looks the place for all-weather punters on Wednesday
Kempton's all-weather card this evening looks the pick of the action on Wednesday

Welcome to Wednesday. Daryl Carter has all the daily info to help with your punting on a busy day for the all-weather action.

"Jockey Angers Villiers is proving well worth his five-pound claim operating at a 33% strike rate in the last 14 days, and today, he heads to Lingfield for three rides."

It's hump day, but to see you through, there is some excellent racing and a day where all-weather experts find three meetings from Lingfield, Kempton and Wolverhampton at their peril.

Turf fans have meetings at Catterick and Musselburgh, while those wanting a bet in Ireland will be looking to Bellewstown.

It's always worth noting when trainer Hughie Morrison teams up with Oisin Murphy on the all-weather. The jockey has scored in two of his last three runs for the trainer at Kempton, including on today's runner Thunderclap 2.01/1.

At Musselburgh, in handicaps over trips between 5f and 7f, much is made about the draw, but there is no draw bias in today's scenario (a field max of eight).

With those drawn low winning 15.2% of the time, middle 16.6% and high 16.3%, those drawn low have a poorer return of investment, suggesting they are over-bet.

It's the same story at Catterick over 5f to 7f (all bar one race today is run over these trips). Low 10.7%, middle 10.2% and high 10.7%.

Trainer Richard Fahey has 11 runners today across the cards but is just one for fifty in the month of August.

Race Of The Day

The 20:30 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day looks like a very tricky handicap for punters, so hopefully, I can shed some light.

Zikany has failed to land the odds on three of his last four starts when favourite, and his sire has a poor record on this surface (5%).

He is, however, one of the few in this race that looks feasibly handicapped, and his latest run at Salisbury was another step forward despite meeting defeat.

Sir Michael Stoute rarely sends one to Kempton without reward, and when booking Ryan Moore (only ride of the day), they have an excellent strike rate (see the stat of the day).

However, he has shaped like he wants 1m6f rather than this drop back in trip on a speed favouring course. It's mixed signals with him, but he may just be staying on when the race is over unless they switch up tactics to a front running ride, which would be interesting.

Irish Legend has run well in defeat this term, with things perhaps not going his way on a couple of occasions, but his bare form is by far the strongest on offer in this contest.

He returns quickly from a gelding operation, is two for two on the all-weather and a handicap mark of 91 shouldn't prove beyond him at some stage, but he hasn't looked the strongest stayer over this trip in his last three runs.

This sharp speed favouring course and the drop back a furlong in trip are both positives, and this represents a drop in grade into Class 3 company.

He has more in his favour than most and is the obvious choice, although there may be another better handicapped.

Marching Army is unexposed, and the switch to a speed favouring course such as this could see him to best effect. He won his only start to date by dictating a gallop at Leicester and showed a bright turn of foot, and he did too much too soon at Goodwood from stall 14 last time.

He will need to take another step forward, but the introduction of the cheek-pieces will help, and he could have plenty more to offer.

His trainer is operating at 28% on this surface, and he is a dark horse in the race and at the prices is the most appealing one for a couple of quid.

Perfect scenario for Primo's Comet to land at Musselburgh

This looks like an excellent opportunity for Primo's Comet to record his sixth-course win, and he can compensation for his narrow defeat last year to Militia when denied a clear run.

Primo's Cometcan be a hostage to fortune, but all four of his victories have come here in fields of less than nine, and today's scenario looks perfect with a guaranteed pace despite the lack of numbers.

He was a very unlucky second in this race last year behind Militia and is only two pounds higher today.

The drying ground is in his favour, as is the track and trip and his handicap mark and today's favourite has been at his best at Hamilton and Ayr and has been disappointing on his last seven visits to this venue.

A strong pace courtesy of Koropick, Militia, Jordan Electrics (possibly) and Get Boosting will see the race set up for his fast-finishing tactics.

Final Word

It was good to call Troll Peninsula right yesterday to back up my argument in the "Final Word" section and save me looking a fool.

I have a habit of constantly putting my neck on the line and being in danger of looking silly, and thankfully this wasn't one of those times.

Hopefully, a few prospered from the advice.

The Racing League is back tomorrow, so be sure to check out my tipping column for Betfair, we thankfully got rid of the horrid sight of a negative profit and loss last week, and now it's time to build.

Until tomorrow, be lucky.
