It's Thursday, and there's some good action to get stuck into up and down the country. Wetherby is the sole jumps meeting in the UK with some competitive action, but Gowran Park in Ireland looks like the place where all the cool kids will hang out this afternoon. Their feature event, the Thyestes Handicap Chase, is one of the most competitive handicaps of the season and we will take a closer look in our race of the day section.
The Betfair Sportsbook is paying six places in our feature race.
Let's get stuck in.

Jockey Jack Andrews rides well at Wetherby and has a 43% strike rate over hurdles. Today he rides 12:40 Just A Wim 10.09/1 and Game Of War 23.022/1 in the 14:15.
The 13:10 Juvenile Hurdle at Wetherby looks a very tricky race for punters. Dan Skelton has a 30% strike rate over hurdles at this venue and saddles Message Personnel 2.68/5, but Greystone 2.89/5 for Lucy Wadham - who has a 24% strike rate - has the stronger form lines.
In the 13:45 Handicap Hurdle at Wetherby, Rock Of Star 2.915/8 is turned out quickly under a penalty and is four pounds well-in on his future rating after scoring in good style at Chepstow. He will carry 12st4lbs, but the race has little strength-in-depth, and it would be no surprise should he go in again.
The once very useful Mr Whipped 5.59/2 - a former Grade 2 Novice Hurdler who beat Paisley Park in 2018 before injury - will look to build on his seasonal return when lining up in the 14:15 Handicap Chase at Wetherby. He faltered for fitness in the closing stages here last time out, and with improvement expected off this rating of 132, he can go close.
Jockey Connor Beasley has a 50% strike rate when riding for John Mackie at Southwell. Today they partner with Elland Road Boy 31.030/1 in the 15:25 Handicap.
Trainer Charlie Appleby rarely misses the target when heading to Newcastle with a 33% strike rate, so it's no surprise many avoid his horses. Today he sends two runners in the 16:27 Sarangani 1.84/5 and Khanthak 2.01/1 in a four runner race.
If you can find the winner between those two and double it up with his Southwell runner in the 13:20 Symbol Of Light 1.51/2, the double pays 2.01/1 and 2.56/4.
Four-year-olds have won four of the last five runnings of the 17:00 Handicap at Newcastle. Plastic Paddy 3.55/2 could be the way to go in that one.
Klassical Dream 1.75/7 heads a competitive field in the Galmoy Hurdle at 14:05 at Gowran Park and will look to enhance his Stayers Hurdle credentials for the Cheltenham Festival. In all honesty, it is strange to see him in this race today because I am not sure what he gains from coming here on ground that will be lively enough for him? Either way, a seven-pound penalty is unlikely to stop him if all is well.

Horses for courses
This section highlights horses that have won twice or more at today's tracks and could be in with a chance today.
12:40 Wetherby - Sigurd - Has won here twice (25%)
14:25 Southwell - Shallow Hal - Has won here twice (33%)
15:53 Newcastle - Manjaam - Has won here twice (33%)
19:00 Newcastle - Tathmeen - Has won here five times (19%)
Weighted to go well
"Weighted to go well" highlights horses running that are more than 10lbs below their last winning handicap mark.
14:55 Southwell - Storm Over - Has won off 73 runs off 62
15:25 Southwell - Elland Road Boy - Has won off 63 runs off 53
18:00 Newcastle - Athollblair Boy - Has won off 82 runs off 68
18:30 Newcastle - Equidae - Has won off 65 runs off 55
Form Watch
This section highlights a trainer, owner or jockey who is in excellent current form and their runners or rides for the day.

Trainer Charles Hills has had a 43% strike rate in the last 14 days. Today he runs Mayfair Stroll at Southwell in the 13:20.
Furthest traveller
Today's furthest traveller is trainer Neil Mulholland with his runner Vis A Vis in the 15:53 at Newcastle. Vis A Vis is back from a short break and makes his first appearance in Class 5 company.
Race of the day
Wow, what a turn out for the 15:05 Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran Park this afternoon; 18 runners take to the turf for this highly competitive event, and it's a race that Willie Mullins has won five times in the last ten years.
Plenty of these are worth considering, and it's nearly impossible to write any of them off in a race that oozes class.
Braeside is a second season Novice Chaser and one I quite fancy for the National Hunt Chase, so I would be expecting a big run from him here back on a softer surface which seems to suit him so well.
He was a big eye-catcher behind School Boy Hours in a similar event at Leopardstown on good ground, shaping as though a stiffer test would suit.
He is 12 pounds higher than his Grand National Handicap Chase Trial win on his penultimate start. Still, he is an improving horse with conditions to suit today and will undoubtedly be finishing strongly.
Longhouse Poet was the subject of an early gamble on Monday, but that has all but dried up, having taken a bit drift in the market this morning. He is a talented horse with some strong back form from his Novice Hurdle days, and his chase form makes him look well-handicapped off this mark of 145.
He took the scalp of Run Wild Fred at the back end of last season on his only start over 3m over fences and had previously chased home Janidil at Naas over a trip too short.
There is plenty to like about his chances today, and he should strip fitter for his seasonal return and is one of the few unexposed over this distance.
Ontheropes was disappointing in the Ladbroke at Newbury and at Leopardstown last time, but the return to a right-handed track will improve him and should the first time cheek-pieces do the trick, he could prove hard to kick out of the frame.
He has some strong form over fences, including beating today's favourite Diol Ker and third favourite Escaria Ten when running second to Monkfish at Fairyhouse.
He is unexposed and firmly on the up representing a trainer in Willie Mullins with a terrific record in this race, and is a fascinating runner.
Big race verdict
This race looks one for the bookmaker with any amount of runners in with decent chances. But I do like Braeside's unexposed and improving profile for Gordon Elliott, and stamina looks like his forte. Chris's Dream carries top weight in this contest but is another who can't be written off, and he brings a class edge to the race, and he was better than the bare result when last seen at Aintree in December off of this handicap mark.

Take a chance with Tath at Newcastle in the lucky last
Newcastle's 19:00 Handicap can go the way of Tathmeen, who will look to record his sixth-course success and drops back to five furlongs for the first time in five runs.
Tathmeen drops into Class 6 company for the first time over this distance and shaped as though a return to form was imminent when second over six at this venue last time out.
All five of his course wins have come over today's distance of five furlongs, and his last effort at this course came in a Class 3 race when a close up sixth back in November off a handicap mark of 72.
Today he runs off a mark of 63 and has the services of a useful seven-pound claimer, effectively putting him on a career-low handicap mark of 56 - 20 pounds lower than his last course and distance success.
He is turned out quickly today, and when returning to the track within ten days, he has scored three times. Seven of his nine wins have come in field sizes of nine or less, so today's scenario of seven runners at Newcastle back over five furlongs looks ideal, and he looks good value against today's favourite.
Dudman dreaming of the big priced double
Alan Dudman was successful with a winning 11/1 double yesterday, and he returns for Thursday's action with two runners combining for an each-way 74/1 Sportsbook multiple at Gowran...

Final Word
It was nice to have a few days off to refresh, but things start to ramp up as we move closer to the Cheltenham Festival now, so hopefully, that break was enough to keep me rolling through!
A big thanks to Alan Dudman for taking over the column in my absence - he always does a great job with this piece, and it's much appreciated.
The Thyestes Handicap Chase today is a highly competitive race, but it's the Galmoy Hurdle that has me scratching my head. It's tough to work out the magical mind of Willie Mullins, who saddles Klassical Dream just 30 days after his win at Leopardstown. Klassical Dream has such a good record fresh it will be interesting to see how he goes here, but one would have thought it was straight to the festival after his Christmas heroics.
As a Champ fan, I will be watching with a keen eye - who also runs this weekend - in what could be a week that solidifies the Stayers Hurdle market or blows it wide open.
Until tomorrow, be lucky.
