Nottingham racecourse
Nottingham host some excellent action on Wednesday from 13:00

It's Wednesday where Nottingham and Kempton host excellent midweek action, and here to offer up some invaluable angles and race day information is Daryl Carter...

"Hey Mr takes a big drop in class and returns to the scene of his impressive handicap win in a race that has worked out remarkably well, and he has fallen back to that last winning mark of 77 despite having excuses for a few of his runs this term."

Today's racing action comes from Nottingham, Catterick, Kempton and Bellewstown on the flat, while the sole jumps meeting is at Bangor-On-Dee.

Betfair Catterick.jpg

In the 14:20 Nursery Handicap at Catterick, no horse rated higher than 67 or lower than 58 has won the race in the last ten years. In a field of 11 today that leaves just four runners:

Texas Man 4.57/2, Honorah 8.07/1, Chandrika 13.012/1 and Fiji Gold 15.014/1.

In the 15:20 at Catterick, three-year-olds have a 50% record in the race, and there are just three running in today's contest. Scheherazade 4.57/2, Summer Power 21.020/1 and Lobo Del Mar 26.025/1.

27% is the strike rate for owner outfit Godolphin at Kempton, and today they run Calm Skies 2.757/4 in the 17:00 and Dubai Legacy 11.010/1 at 18:00.

Three-year-olds have taken the last five runnings of the 18:30 Follow @mansionbet On Twitter Handicap at Kempton. There is just one running today, Scampi 5.59/2, ridden by Oisin Murphy.

Jockey Jim Crowley heads to Nottingham today and partners up with trainer Charlie Fellowes with Fresh Hope 3.259/4 in the 13:30. The pair boasts a 44% strike rate.

A fab four for Easterby in Nottingham's feature Sprint

Trainer Tim Easterby is having his best season to date and saddles four of the 17 runner field in the 15:00. David Allan in the saddle may indicate that Flying Pursuit 13.012/1 is the favoured runner from the yard, but he needs some rain.

Duran Fentiman's association with stablemate Ava Go Joe 5.59/2 and regular rider Ella McCain sticks with the hat-trick-seeking Wade's Magic 6.05/1 to leave it tough for punters to work out.

Easterby said, "Flying Pursuit wants a drop of rain really, which would also benefit Afandem (non runner) too. Afandem was supposed to run at Hamilton on Monday, but we declared him for this as that meeting was called off. It's good money, and I wouldn't read too much in the jockey bookings. It's just the way it's worked out."

Va va Vadeni

The 11:50 at Chantilly is worth keeping a close eye on today as potential superstar Vadeni for J-C Rouget will bid for a hattrick of career wins.

Connections won the race last year with a similar unbeaten type who went on to run in the Qatar Prix du Jockey Club as a three-year-old.

Furthest traveller

Today's furthest traveller is trainer Mark Johnston who travels 245 miles from his base to Kempton with Big Kitten 12.011/1 in the 18:30. He has just the one runner on the Kempton card but has scored with just one of his last 19 runners.

Race of the day

We head to Nottingham to assess the tricky 15:30 Jockey Club Grassroots Series Middle Distance Final Handicap, where there looks to be a solid favourite for her Majesty the Queen.

Wink Of An Eye has been highly progressive this term, scoring off a handicap mark of just 70 back in June and has risen 21 pounds in the handicap after four consecutive wins.

His winning run came to an end last time at York when poorly positioned in a race where it paid to be ridden prominently, but he caught the eye in easily a stronger contest than this.

Today represents much calmer waters, and the drop back in trip is a reason to be positive about his chances. He could have more to come, and his handicap mark still looks well within reach.

Wallem will no doubt prove popular given how well he shaped at Sandown last time when denied a clear run on the back of a break and a gelding operation.

He almost certainly looks well-handicapped up just one pound, and there are reasons for him to improve further, so he is one to view positively.

The feeling is that he may have bumped into one today in Wink Of An Eye, but he remains one to keep on side.

Pallas Dancer has done all of his best work on the all-weather surface, and his sole run on turf ended with a heavy defeat.

However, he has improved leaps and bounds since that turf run and connections are well within their rights to roll the dice again on this surface after an excellent second at Newcastle, splitting two subsequent winners that are now both 13 pounds higher in the handicap.

The market looks to have underestimated his chances on the fact that 12 of his 13 runs have come on the all-weather, and that could be an angle to give the improving four-year-old an each-way chance.

The Timeform team head to Nottingham today and offer up three of their best bets.

At Nottingham in the 16:30 Handicap, it may pay to look away from the obvious market leader Raasel who is unexposed but well found in the market and has produced his best performances when fresh off a break.

Hey Mr takes a big drop in class and returns to the scene of his impressive handicap win in a race that has worked out remarkably well, and he has fallen back to that last winning mark of 77 despite having excuses for a few of his runs this term.

He has some strong form in defeat this season which looks to have been underestimated by the market, and the drop into a class 5 event for the first time could make all the difference.

Final Word

I can feel the excitement building to the weekend for the big one in France. We have potentially the most competitive Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe we have seen for years.

It's that competitive that a slight edge in terms of ground or the draw could swing it one way or another.

Try and leave the decision as late as possible for this year's race, but my goodness, how very exciting indeed!

Until tomorrow, be lucky.
