In the 13:00 at Brighton, trainer George Boughey has a 57% strike rate (4-7) with two-year-olds at this venue. Today he saddles newcomer Lumacho 4.57/2.
In the 13:45 at Carlisle, trainer Edward Bethell is up against it with his newcomer Mint Edition 29.028/1, but backers can take confidence that he has a 42% strike rate with first time out two-year-olds. A huge number for a big priced runner. However, Carmela 2.68/5 should be extremely tough to beat.
In the 16:15 at Chepstow, trainer William Haggas saddles the returning King Of Ice 2.56/4, who has recently been gelded. Haggas is 27% with first time gelded runners.
A trip worthwhile for Crowley?
Jockey Jim Crowley journeys to Haydock this evening for his only ride of the day in the 18:55 onboard Almuhit 10.09/1 for John and Thady Gosden. Together the trainer jockey combo has a 28% strike rate, and their runner has shown promise in two starts to date despite looking very green.
Crowley is two for four 50% at Haydock this season and takes his first ride for John Gosden at Haydock since 2017.
In the 19:55 at Haydock, trainer Tristan Davidson saddles recent winner Iris Dancer 8.07/1, and he has a 33% strike rate with last time out winners.

Furthest traveller
Today's furthest travellers are trainers Charlie and Mark Johnston, who has made the 296-mile journey to Brighton with two runners. They saddle Jungle Fever 4.57/2 13:00 and Toussarok 8.515/2 14:10.
Race of the day
The competitive 13 runners' six-furlong sprint handicap at Haydock 20:25 is today's feature action.
Manigordo takes a drop in class today after showing up well in both starts this season, and that could be just the ticket to see him back in the winner's enclosure. He returns to Haydock, where he was a fast-finishing fourth in a highly competitive Class 3 contest in October, and since fitted with the cheek-piece and tongue-tie combination, he has proven very reliable.
There are few negatives to his chances, and there's little reason as to why he won't be involved in the business end.
Somewhere Secret is a bit long in the tooth to suggest any improvement is left in the tank, but he has been building towards a bigger performance and the return to Haydock where he has scored three times, is a positive.
The blinkers are switched out for the visor (scored when cheek-pieces were swapped for blinkers), and the slower the ground, the better his chances. Each way play.
Beauty Choice will not be far away if getting a strong pace to aim at on this drop back to six furlongs. He ran on nicely over seven at Newmarket last time but had some strong form in defeat over this distance. He might be one that's best served with soft ground over six because he lacks a change in gear.
Big race verdict
This is a good race, two offerings here. Somewhere Secret is generous odds returned to this venue, and he is hard to ignore. While Manigordo looks to a more obvious choice from a win only perspective, he is a good horse on his day, as he proved here in October last season, so coupling the pair should not see you too far away.
Carter's Saturday selections
We scored last week with a confident bet in Ascot Adventure, and this time around, the top of my list is Kinross 3.7511/4 in the 15:30 John Of Gaunt Stakes.
How this proven group performer is not a clear favourite is quite frankly beyond me, and it is making me question whether the Sportsbook knows something I do not. Still, he is worth a punt anyway, given he holds the strongest form lines in this race and is clear top-rated returning to the race he won last season.
Three Group 1 efforts followed his Goodwood Lennox victory over Creative Force and Space Blues last season, and in two of those, he was far better than the bare result when denied a clear passage. He takes a drop into Group 3 company today for this return, and the last time he reappeared on the back of an absence such as this, he was an excellent sixth in the 2,000 Guineas. Back the class act to score in this company.
Earlier on the card in the 13:45, similar comments apply to Dragon Symbol 3.55/2, who takes a drop in grade and faces mainly exposed handicappers. He should benefit from the slower ground and the drop back to five furlongs with his reappearance under his belt.
At Chester in the 15:45, Boardman 3.55/2 looks to have everything in his favour for a second-course victory after winning with plenty in hand at Thirsk, despite things not going entirely his way. Connections have done an excellent job keeping this lad competitive in the handicap, and there looks to be a very strong pace today for a late finishing burst.
Final Word - Desert Crown wows with Newmarket workout.
According to reports, Desert Crown "wowed" spectators with his pre-Derby workout at Newmarket earlier this week when working with the yards dual Group winner and 112 rated Solid Stone.
Betfair clipped him in from 9/4 to 15/8 on the Sportsbook, and he was last matched on the Betfair Exchange at 3.02/1.
He is hard to knock, but am I the only one looking at his RPRs of 94 to 120 and thinking, Christ, he is either a superstar or very much overrated? It's not often you see a horse take such a step forward. Camelot was the only Derby winner in the last ten years that came close to matching that RPR on his second start (118), so we could be looking at a potential giant in Desert Crown.
I think we could end up with a short-priced Derby favourite come the day, and I hope he gets the job done.
Until Monday, be lucky.
