Today's Racing News: A Friday stacked with potential at Newmarket

Potential stars on show at Newmarket on Friday.

For the final time this week, our man Daryl Carter is here to guide you through a busy day of racing, with all the stats and info you could need for Friday.

"This is a very weak race for a 0-95, and the drop-in class will see him to best effect off this lenient mark of 90 for just his second start in a handicap. He simply has to be a recommended bet here."

Welcome to Friday, where we have no less than seven meetings up and down the country to get our grubby little mitts into.

Today's meetings come from Goodwood, Thirsk, Newmarket, Ffos Las, and Hamilton.

If you're a fan of Irish racing the Curragh and Down Royal are where you will be heading on an excellent day of racing.

Let's get into it!

The market says LAY!

Which horse at the head of the markets is on the drift this morning?

15:30 Newmarket - Fablis 7/4 OUT 9/4

His two rivals Tyson Fury and Living Legend are both seeing market support this morning, and given he has been beaten a combined distance of 32 lengths in his last three starts, the market suggests he wont be bouncing back to form today. lay on the Betfair Exchange here..

Race of the day

Plenty to choose from today but I cherry picked a race because of a fairly strong fancy and that's the 16:30 MansionBet At Newmarket Handicap.

Cairn Island is by far the most exciting runner in this race, and his effort at Chester when failing to handle the sharp course and being forced four wide for much of the race can be easily forgiven.

His seasonal return effort, when fourth beaten three lengths by Creative Force, looks an extremely strong piece of form.

The runner-up won off 92 at Royal Ascot before scoring at that venue again off 96, and the third has since scored twice and is rated 102. The fifth, Rohaan, has since won Group 3 and a Group 2 and is rated 115.

He may not be quite up to those heights, but his two-year-old form is strong also, and that performance suggested he has trained on.

This is a very weak race for a 0-95, and the drop-in class will see him to best effect off this lenient mark of 90 for just his second start in a handicap.

He simply has to be a recommended bet here.

The clear danger is Cairn Gorm, who takes a similar drop in grade and has fallen in the handicap to a workable mark of 97.

He's been stuck between a rock and a hard place for some time on the back of a good two-year-old season, but he has had plenty of racing this term over this trip to no avail.

He may just need a little more relent from the handicapper or a change in trip to see him improve again, although outside of Cairn Island, it would be a good opportunity.

Boogie Time is a winner of his last three outings and arrives under a six-pound penalty for scoring at Leicester in a Class 4 event. He could have more to offer but looks mighty short in the market at opening prices.

He will need to take a giant leap forward here to trouble the above two.

Final Word

Lovely to see the Falcon land in yesterday's column, I had a shocker at Lingfield with the Racing League though, so apologies for that.

Onwards and upwards as they say.

Another week flies by, which means we are ever closer to the Chepstow Open meeting - the one I and you should as well, consider the start of the jumps season proper.

It also means no rest and any free time is used up to re-watch last season on loop!

I hope you have a more productive weekend and until Monday, be lucky!
