A good day on Wednesday to explore each-way angles as there are a huge 11 Extra Place Specials on the Sportsbook today, leading off with one over jumps at Perth in the 16:30 2m4f Handicap Hurdle and Lucinda Russell's Petite Rhapsody 6.05/1 goes well at the track and is in a field of 12.
Three Extra Place Special races on the Sportsbook come from Redcar, and the 16:37 5f Handicap is the big each-way race of the day and hopefully all 16 stand their ground looking for five instead of the four. The 17:08 7f Handicap and the finale 17:38 7f Handicap both have 12 runners for the two divisions and the ground will likely be on the quicker side with a dry forecast.
A decent-looking card at Goodwood with the trio of Extra Place Specials. The first of which is the 14:25 1m Claiming Handicap. Course specialist Treacherous is looking to win at Goodwood again in the 15:00 6f Handicap while Concierge was backed this morning (12s into 9s) and Regal Envoy a drifter from 9s to 16s. The 17:20 5f Handicap has 12 runners and is the final extra place race. No rain is predicted with good to soft given at the time of writing this morning.
Two for Kempton for the evening at 19:15 1m3f Handicap and 19:45 1m4f Handicap. Quite a few movers in the latter to report with La Belle Vie 7.06/1, Wolf Of Oxshott 7.06/1 and Malcolm 26.025/1 all positives.
One from Southwell for Extra Place Special followers, and that's the opening 18:00 7f Handicap and the liveliest market of the morning with plenty backed from big prices including the Alafdhal from 33s into 16s, although favourite Bold Territories has been in great form and goes for the four-time today under Oliver Stammers.
The September Harvest Festival continues at Listowel and the jumpers take to the stage today for the 3m Kerry National at 16:20 with 18 runners. Brilliant Galway Plate winner Hewick is looking to win from a mammoth mark of 163 but wasn't at all strong in the betting from 11/2 out to 8/1 early doors on Wednesday.
The ones for cash at double figures are Early Doors 15.014/1, Embittered 17.016/1 Freewheelin Dylan 19.018/1 and Fire Attack 10.09/1, and what a race to look forward to for a midweek. Willie Mullins has two of the three reserves.
Stat Of The Day
William Buick and Charlie Appleby have enjoyed a top campaign at Goodwood this season together, and Royal Fleet should boost the pair's record at Goodwood when they team up together, which currently stands at 27-83 at 33%. Royal Fleet heads the market for the feature 15:35.
Horses for courses
This section highlights horses that have won twice or more at today's tracks and could be in with a chance today.
13:35 Perth: Sword Of Fate 4.84/1 has won here three times (38%).

18:45 Kempton: Crystal Casque 6.511/2 has won here four times (24%).
20:15 Kempton: Magicinthemaking 21.020/1 has won here three times (17%).
Weighted to go well
"Weighted to go well" highlights horses running that are more than 10lbs below their last winning handicap mark.
15:55 Perth: Darius Des Sources 10.09/1 has won off 102 and runs off 83, and Monsieur Co has won off 118 and runs off 93.
16:30 Perth: Near Kettering 17.016/1 has won off a mark of 104 and runs off 92, Calliope 5.59/2 has won off a mark of 100 and runs off 83, Old Jewry 11.010/1 has won off a mark of 97 and runs from 77, and Haataab 41.040/1 has won off 96 and runs off 73.
14:25 Goodwood: Trais Fluors 34.033/1 has won off 92 and runs off 80.
15:00 Goodwood: Pettochside 11.010/1 has won off 78 and runs off 65, and Concierge 9.08/1 has won off 84 and runs off 74.
16:45 Goodwood: Hortzadar 8.07/1 has won off 94 and runs off 84, and Lawn Ranger 10.09/1 has won off 82 and runs off 70.
16:03 Redcar: Bollin Margaret 7.06/1 has won off 78 and runs off 62.
17:08 Redcar: Magical Effect 5.59/2 has won off 69 and runs off 58.
17:38 Redcar: Mutanaaseq 11.010/1 has won off 67 and runs off 57, and Amazing Alba 13.012/1 has won off 57 and runs off 46.
18:00 Southwell: Catch My Breath 13.012/1 has won off a mark of 69 and runs off 57.
Winning the furthest traveller today by absolutely (err) miles is Lord Napier 12.011/1 for Welsh wonder Peter Bowen. A huge 447-mile trip is in store for the 14:45 3m Handicap Chase at Perth, a super contest too. Bowen could have his own section with the amount of miles he clocks up!
Saeed bin Suroor's Chief Of Staff was a 6.511/2 winner as one of the recommended bets yesterday as the trainer feature and fared well on the form watch with stats.
Wednesday could be another blue day and it's no surprise that William Buick gets an honourable mention. His numbers at the track this season are quite frankly ludicrous. Yes, he rides some fine horses for Charlie Appleby, but his strike-rate of 43% of late with 36 winners in the last month is deeply impressive.
His numbers at Goodwood are stellar too - 16-4 at 35% showing a level stakes profit of +11.64. His four mounts all have good chances unsurprisingly, and it could be another multiple for Buick.
Midnight Lion 3.7511/4 goes in the opener 13:50 1m2f Maiden, Red Mirage 5.04/1 in the 14:25 1m Handicap, Royal Fleet 2.26/5 in the 15:35 1m2f Listed and Secret Shadow 2.757/4 in the 16:10 1m6f Handicap.
The Sportsbook Multiple on his four mounts pays around 107/1 and could be worth an each-way acca.
Buick on Royal Fleet gets the nod too for a bet with the stat in mind. Fresh from his big money weekend in America, I wouldn't mind being his agent at the moment.
Sean Bowen has been leading rider at Perth this term, and expect another good day from the Welsh wizard at Scone Palace with stats going into Wednesday of 16-42 at 38%. He rides Quantaum Realm for Gordon Elliott in the feature 14:45 3m Handicap Chase, with the trainer operating at 40% too this term.
However, Dianne Sayer is even better at 3-7 this season at 42% and Charlie Uberalles has been backed on the Sportsbook from 7/1 into 11/2 and could keep the trainer's run going and be the best Sayer since Leo.
Over at Redcar, two jockeys stand out with their level stakes profits. Zak Wheatley is 3-8 at the track this term showing a +44.0 figure, while Jason Hart has been busy with the number of mounts with 5-20 at 20% and a profit of +26.60.
Wheatley rides Contactless 13.012/1 in the 17:03 7f Handicap, a big price in an Extra Place Special race.
Veteran trainer Eric Alston doesn't have too many horses these days, but he is 2-4 at Redcar this term at 50% showing a profit of a massive +42.50. It should have been more with Fox Hill recently, and his sole runner on the card today is Boudica Bay 17.016/1 - a big mover on the Sportsbook from 25/1 into 16/1 for another Extra Place Special.
Jason Hart is on and the pair have an 11% strike-rate over 5f.
Aidan Coleman, who no longer will be stable number one to Olly Murphy pops up at Listowel today with a recent 2-5 record, but he'll have to go some way to catch Ireland's champion jockey Paul Townend - who is 6-9 at 75% at Listowel this term.
Townend is on El Barra - the 5/1 favourite for the Kerry National, while Coleman rides Ronald Pump - backed from 20s to 18s.
Race of the day
There could be many contenders for this honour today, but the Kerry National at 16:20 will really light up the afternoon. Could we see a new pretender for a Gold Cup in the shape of Hewick?
He is rated 163 now after big wins in the Galway Plate and Bet365 at Sandown, and is just 9lbs shy of the current Gold Cup favourite Galopin Des Champs. For a horse who cost just 800 euros, it's some story, and while we expect the Shark to say he'll run a "mighty race", him winning over shorter at Ballybrit last time on quick ground was some effort for a thorough stayer, but he does have a bit of pace.
El Barra has around 4L to find from their Galway clash last time and while he was well beaten at Cheltenham, his jumping is very good and doesn't appear to be ground dependant.
Big race verdict
I'm going to stick with Hewick for this at 8/1, as with just eight runs under his belt and the way he survived a scare at Galway with the loose horse was pleasing for a young horse.
Still only with eight runs over fences, whose to say he can't improve on his current mark of 163? If he is up to Gold Cup class, then he should be in the mix, although it's a fierce race today for the big pot.
Hanlon won this in 2011 with Alfa Beat although I am still scratching my head how I got Hewick beat when I backed him at Perth off a mark of 137!

Look out for Timeform bets for Goodwood on Wednesday
Andrew Asquith heads the Timeform team today with his three bets for Goodwood, and one selection is a 13/1 each-way bet for an excellent card on the Sussex Downs.
Final Word (s)
A really good day of racing ahead, with some quality action just about everywhere across Perth, Goodwood and Listowel and the markets reflect that with plenty of moves at big prices in lots of competitive races. It's a good day for punters jumps' and Flat alike and while we cannot have this every day, big fields and good racing is just about the Shangri La - even with a fair amount of Novice and Maiden races plus a Claiming Handicap. More of those please.
So while we all like to have a moan, and I am nearing expert territory, it deserves a bit of praise. It helps having the Kerry National on too - and while I have no idea of turnover in terms of betting, not everything has to be on a Saturday to get lost amongst the non-stop action of weekends.
One negative though is the inability to have sectional times published, as I was intrigued to find out how Courage Mon Ami fared on the clock with that starling effort last week at Kempton. Once again, no data appeared, for what reason I don't know but it is frustrating for something that should be so simple. I was waiting in the post-race aftermath, and I am still waiting. There, that levels the status quo.
Good luck for Wednesday and I am in the Daily Racing News hotseat once again for tomorrow.
