They are based in West Bromwich in the Midlands and play at the Hawthorns, which has a capacity of 26,272. They moved to their current home in 1900.

West Brom were one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888. They have only once won the top flight championship. This success came in the 1919-1920 season. In Cup competitions, though, they have enjoyed rather more success. They are five time winners of the FA Cup having got their hands on the trophy in 1888, 1892, 1931, 1954 and 1968. The League Cup was added to their cabinet in 1966 when they beat West Ham over two legs in the final.

The club was founded in 1878. They were originally known as the West Bromwich Strollers. Workers from George Salter's Spring Works set up the football team, which then was renamed to West Bromwich Albion in 1880. They joined the Birmingham & District Football Association in 1881, which allowed them to enter the Birmingham Cup. A couple of years later they won their first ever trophy, the Staffordshire Cup.

The Albion became a member of the Football Association in 1983, which allowed them to play in the FA Cup later that year. In 1985, they took the decision to turn professional after seven years of being an amateur club.

In 1888 West Brom were one of 12 teams to form the Football League. They had to wait until 1921 to win the competition for what has been the only time in their history so far. The Midlands club were able to accumulate 60 points that season, scoring 104 goals along the way. Both of those were league records at the time.

After a short period in the Championship in the late 90s and early 00s, they returned back to the top flight in 2002 as they gained promotion into the Premier League. They have stayed here ever since.

Although they have played in various colours over the years, for the majority of them, the Albion have featured in royal navy blue and white stripes. Their nickname is the Baggies, which dates back to the early 1900s.

Rivalries for the club include matches played against many of the local teams in the Midlands, most notably Aston Villa, Birmingham, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
