Betis v Granada
Saturday 13 January, 20:00
We suffered a real kick in the teeth last night in Spain, as Alaves grabbed a late winner in Seville to secure their first away win in La Liga for several years, and their first away to Sevilla since the 1950s.
We won't go far for our next wager, because we'll hop across the city to check out Sevilla's local rivals Real Betis. Manuel Pellegrini's side are just a few points off the top six, and they face a Granada team that's in deep trouble at the wrong end of the table.
Betis slipped out of the Europa League (they dramatically lost their final group game at home to Rangers), but they could still do well in the Europa Conference League, and their league form is solid. They have lost just three of their 19 games, and although racking up ten draws is never that inspiring, they are at least tough to beat.
At the Benito Villamarin recently, Betis have held high-flying Real Madrid and Girona to draws (they were unlucky not to beat Real), and they haven't lost a home game in the league since May.
Granada are in the mire, with just two league wins all season. Uruguayan coach Alexander Medina has been parachuted in to try to save the club from the drop, after Paco Lopez was axed in November. They are particularly bad on the road, having lost all but one of their away games. Granada haven't taken maximum points on the road in La Liga since a 6-2 win at Mallorca two seasons ago, although it's worth remembering they were in the Segunda last term.
I'll back Betis -1.0 on the Asian Handicap here at 2.111/10. I know they haven't been winning consistently, but they are strong at home, and can outclass a Granada team that has lost by multiple goals eight times this season.
