Thursday Football Tips: Shots the focus in 5/1 Benfica Bet Builder

Both of these sides come into the game off the back of damaging defeats - with Benfica hammered 5-0 by rivals Porto while Rangers suffered a shock defeat to Motherwell.

Roger Schmidt's side also lost to Sporting the game before, while Rangers had won all 10 games in 2024 before that defeat, so this game grows in importance because of those losses.

These two played out two high-scoring draws in their last meeting three years ago, and Benfica's home record is a bit of a mystery as they've not lost domestically in 90 minutes this season but have won just one of their last four European ties at the Estadio da Luz.

Leg 1: Benfica 6+ shots on target

Benfica have had 6+ shots on target in six of their past seven home games so we'll take the 4/61.67 on that bet landing again.

They only hit the target three times against Toulouse in their last European home game, but that was from a whopping 25 attempts so just a little more accuracy would've seen them hit at least six again.

The Eagles have had a tough run of late so expect them to come firing out of the traps against opposition they'll feel are easier to get at that Portuguese giants Sporting and Porto.

Leg 2: Rangers 5+ shots on target

With Benfica big favourite's we've gor some value in Rangers causing a few problems, which they've already shown they are capable of in Europe this season.

Rangers are 13/82.63 to hit the target 5+ times in Lisbon on Thursday - which they've managed in nine of their last 11 outings.

They've managed five in four of their six Europa Lerague games this season, and even the two they missed out on they managed four from 11 and 12 attempts so there's volume there.

Benfica have allowed at least six shots on target in all four of their European home ties this season.

Leg 3: Angel Di Maria 1+ shot on target

Angel Di Maria is 2/51.40 for just 1+ shot on target, which we'll take to finish off our Thursday Bet Builder treble.

The Argentinian has hit the target in five of his seven European games this season, and has tallied 30 overall for club and country.

And on home turf at the Estadio da Luz, Di Maria has hit the target in 12 of 14 games so in a big game in his own backyard he's the man to side with.
