Brighton's Italian manager Robert De Zerbi faces Roma and Andy's backing goals

Andy Robson is changing gear this midweek with a Thursday three-fold across the Europa League and Europa Conference League...

  • Back goals when Seagulls are in Rome

  • Benfica to strike back against Rangers

  • Overs the bet when Fener go to Belgium

Leg 1 - Roma v Brighton, 17:45

Tip: Back both teams to score

Roma's fairytale resurgence under club icon and caretaker boss Daniele De Rossi continued at pace at the weekend when the Giallorossi posted their seventh win in nine matches with a 4-1 triumph over Monza.

Playing with a lethal blend of attacking intent and enthusiasm, Roma have scored 22 times in nine fixtures since De Rossi's appointment and they are yet to fail to score in any game since the 40-year-old's arrival.

The Italians are guaranteed to play with forward thrust again on Thursday when they take on a Brighton outfit that has kept only one clean sheet in their last seven assignments on the road. Expect Roma, armed with big-hitters like Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku in attack, to score at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma have been far from watertight defensively, however. Despite stringing a series of wins together, they have conceded more shots than they have mustered in five of their last six matches, recording just a single shutout along the way.

Roberto De Zerbi's Brighton are keen chance creators. Only Liverpool and Manchester City average more shots on target per game than Albion in the Premier League this term. The Seagulls also have a 100% strike-rate in the Europa League this season, so back them to trade blows with Roma on Thursday.

Leg 2 - Benfica v Rangers, 20:00

Tip: Back Benfica to win

Benfica were dismantled 5-0 at the weekend by chief rivals FC Porto in what was a nightmarish evening for As Águias on Sunday. The criticism they've received in the aftermath of that performance could inspire the Portuguese giants to respond on Thursday when Rangers visit.

Roger Schmidt's Benfica have won nine of their last 10 assignments on home soil, plundering a superb 32 goals along the way, and they haven't lost a Europa League fixture on their own patch since Chelsea turned them over in Lisbon all the way back in 2013.

Rangers, meanwhile, failed to win three of their six Europa League group games before Christmas. They might be a little distracted by their crucial upcoming Scottish Cup quarter-final clash at Hibernian on Sunday and a more motivated Benfica could pounce.

The hosts will need to come out swinging on Thursday to appease their supporters following their mauling at Porto. With Benfica determined to restore pride, Rangers might just be visiting the Estádio da Luz at an inopportune time.

Rangers have failed to win 11 of their last 13 away games in the Europa League since March 2021 and they are worth opposing again here when they travel to take on a Benfica side eager to bite back.

Leg 3 - Union St Gilloise v Fenerbahce, 20:00

Tip: Back Over 2.5 goals

Ismail Kartal's top-heavy Fenerbahce side have been one of Europe's most entertaining teams to watch this season and another goal-laden fixture involving The Yellow Canaries could be in the works on Thursday when they take on Union St Gilloise in Belgium.

Fenerbahce's Turkish Super Lig matches have been averaging 3.35 goals per 90 this season, while their staggeringly high +50 goal difference after 28 matches in that division also points to how free-wheeling their football has been.

Similarly, their skirmishes in the Europa Conference League have also been hitting the goalscoring heights and their Group H fixtures before the turn of the year averaged 4.0 goals per game.

Fenerbahce have generally been at their most prolific at home, where they have lost just once in 21 games in all competitions, and that formidable record could impact Union St Gilloise's thinking ahead of Thursday's first leg.

Keen to establish a healthy advantage to take into their tough second leg test in Turkey on March 14th, the Belgians are likely to push for goals at the Stade Joseph Mariën and an open contest could develop.

Five of Union's last six tussles in Europe, and all but one of Fenerbahce's last six fixtures in the Europa League, have featured over 2.5 goals and a stake in the same direction is the favoured approach here.
