Today's first semi-final is between two IPL heavyweights, with Rajasthan Royals chasing a 13th consecutive win at Jaipur. Regardless of their quality opponents, that is enough for Paul Krishnamurty to strongly recommend a bet on the home side at odds-against...

"There are few occasions when we can back a team that has won 12 times in a row at odds-against and, given their outstanding home record, Rajasthan are an obvious value pick at 2.35/4...their slow bowling options look superior and that could prove decisive."

Rajasthan Royals

Without detracting from their achievements, there can be little doubt the three Indian sides in this year's Champions League have enjoyed a significant home advantage. Nobody more so than Rajasthan, who have even been able to play their matches on their home ground and will chase a remarkable 13th consecutive victory there in this semi-final. Their path has been surprisingly smooth after losing key bowlers in the run-up on match-fixing charges, but lesser names than Sri Sreesanth have more than filled the void. The bowling stars in their most recent, and most impressive, defeat of similarly unbeaten Otago were Rahul Shukla and Pravin Tambe. With a deep batting line-up which can call upon the evergreen Brad Hodge at six, Royals remain a very well balanced side.

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai seemed certain to win their group prior to a quite shocking defeat to the under-rated Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday. Normally one can rely on their plethora of world-class batsmen digging out of any hole but on this occasion Sunil Narine and co skittled them for just 118. While that was only a blip that happens to the best of sides, the result is a very tricky away fixture. Accurate, economical bowling will be required to restrict the opposition on this ground, so it must be a worry that they have failed miserably in that regard during this competition. Ravindra Jadeja has been particularly expensive, but it would still be a surprise to see him dropped.

First Innings Runs

Wait for the pitch report before drawing strong conclusions today. Normally, Jaipur is a batting paradise and these two sides bat all the way down to at least nine. If the pitch is similar to the ones seen here earlier in the competition, I'll be looking at very big scores, such as 190 and 200 plus at odds of 5.04/1 and upwards. However in the last match here, the pitch offered lots of turn and 150 would have been a par score. If it looks like being the latter scenario again, it may be worth laying 160 plus if, as expected, it can be done at around 1.758/11.

Match odds

There are few occasions when we can back a team that has won 12 times in a row at odds-against and, given their outstanding home record, Rajasthan are an obvious value pick at 2.35/4. They beat Chennai in their IPL match here and have looked at least their equals during this tournament, especially in the last match. Furthermore, their slow bowling options look superior and that could prove decisive.

Top Rajasthan batsman

Brad Hodge is in superb form but the Aussie usually comes in too late at six to win this market. We're still yet to see a big Shane Watson innings and, given that he was in good form against England previously, it could turn out that he saves his best for the key latter stages. Watson is available at 4.3100/30.

Top Chennai batsman

That concern about a late batting position usually applies to backing MS Dhoni so it was interesting to see him come in at four against T & T. If he does so again, the current 7.413/2 odds about the skipper will look absolutely huge.
