Timeform run the rule over three smart prospects...
Horses In Focus
John Gosden's Showcasing looks a smart prospect, having confirmed a highly promising debut second to Arcano in a strongly-contested maiden at Newbury, with a comfortable success in a six furlong maiden at Yarmouth. Showing a professional attitude in making all, the colt drew away without Jimmy Fortune having to resort to the whip. Boasting a useful sprinting pedigree, Showcasing looks up to pattern level, and with improvement likely, he can be competitive at that level this season.
Alanbrooke has always shown a lot of promise and finally looked like fulfilling it when producing a useful galloping display to draw clear of Strathcal over a mile and six furlongs at Sandown. Having been particularly disappointing on his previous start at Ripon, Mark Johnston upped the son of Hernando in trip and put the blinkers on, and these factors, combined with a more forceful ride, created the desired effect. There looks to be plenty of improvement left as he has a late-maturing pedigree and under similar conditions, it looks possible that the colt can improve into a pattern level performer at some point.
Although overshadowed by the superb performance of Sea The Stars, Conduit produced an excellent display in the Eclipse, suggesting further Group One success is not long in waiting. Having been trapped further back than Ryan Moore wished, the Breeders' Cup Turf winner produced a sustained run on the outside of the field to look a possible winner two furlongs out. However, he was outrun by two top-class three-year-olds in the final furlong, and raced as though still in need of the outing, a point supported by connections both before and after the race. Set to run in the King George, Conduit will be hard to beat, with Sea The Stars, Rip Van Winkle and Fame and Glory all having alternative targets.
