Another Betfair Superboost winner!
It's three winning Superboosts in Cheltenham week after our final day selection landed. More than 11,000 Betfair customers were on Willie Mullins' Selma De Vary to finish in the top four of the Triumph Hurdle at boosted odds of 5/42.25 from 4/91.44. Together with Old Park Star and Jonbon that means we have paid out multiple times this week!
Triumph runner Proactif the pick for a winning start
Gold Cup day begins with the Triumph Hurdle and I'll be backing Proactif to land the win for Willie Mullins and JP McManus.
I was really impressed with this horse when he ran at Fairyhouse, notably beating Macho Man, who's also for the same yard.
There was a lot of talk about that. Both horses have got really good French form, but I think the way Proactif went about his business that day was brilliant. I think he will handle the Cheltenham track great and I think he'll improve today.
The fact that Narcisco Has came out of the race and Proactif is prominent in the betting was really interesting. For me, Proactif, at around 9/25.50, is the value play.
Back Proactif to win the Triumph Hurdle, Cheltenham, 13:20
Murcia can follow in footsteps of Kargese with County Hurdle win
I'll be backing another Mullins runner in the following County Hurdle at 14:00 in the form of Murcia. Danny Mullins takes the ride, and he has already had a winner this week in the same colours for Kargese. That horse won this race last year off a mark of 140. Murcia's mark is 142.
The selection ran in the Dublin Race Festival in a competitive handicap where Paul Townsend pulled her wide to finish fourth. She only went up two pounds for that effort.
She won a Grade 1 at Aintree as a four-year-old, and looks really well-handicapped. At around 10/1 I find her very hard to be out the placings as an each way play.
Mullins and connections know how to go close in this race and I think they can again.
Back Murcia to win the County Hurdle, Cheltenham, 14:00
Townsend & Warrior a potent Gold Cup combination
If ridden prominently in Friday's feature, the Gold Cup at 16:00, I fancy Gaelic Warrior to win with Paul Townend on board.
It's a real shame that Galopin des Champs is not there, but his absence actually allows Paul Townend to ride Gaelic Warrior.
Gaelic Warrior has plenty of Festival experience - we have seen him in the Turners (formerly the Ballymore), the Arkle (which he won) and the Fred Winter off a mark of 129 when it should have won. That was one of the biggest handicap blots in festival history not to come off!
A winner at Aintree in the Bowl last year, when ridden by Patrick Mullins, he now has Paul Townend doing the steering which is huge. The same pair finished a brilliant third in the King George and I think he can reverse the form today
I think he might be tough to beat on the day around 4/15.00.
