Manchester United and Middlesbrough got things underway for us early on Saturday, cancelling each other out inside the first quarter of an hour at Old Trafford. We didn't feel that Boro were capable of scoring and thought the home side might struggle just a tad after being on their travels in mid-week. United went on to notch up another 3 though, making it 4 games in a row now where they have found the net 4 times. Its not so long ago they were being criticised for a succession of narrow, low scoring victories.
Celtic put the mid-week Euro blues behind them with a comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Motherwell. Scott McDonald returned to the side in style by bagging his first hat-trick in his new colours. It was a comfortable 3 points for Celtic in a match that was expected to be a lot tighter. We certainly expected Motherwell to pose more of a threat and maybe even nick one but football matches rarely pan out as we expect them to and as long as the goals go in that's all that matters for us!
Dundee United and Rangers also took care of the business this weekend in a game that sawhe visitors drop another 3 points on the road after going down 2-1. We felt both sides would score and this proved to be the case as Lee Wilkie put the Arabs ahead mid-way through the first half, getting the better of Lee McCulloch at a set-piece. Beasley was tripped inside the area shortly after the break and Daniel Cousin made sure from the spot for 2 goal backers.
Rangers are in the middle of a Champions League double header with Barcelona at present and will have been taking note of Almeria' performance at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening. The newly promoted side frustrated and contained their hosts in a way that paralleled with the Catalans' Ibrox experience last Tuesday and had 2 goal backers such as ourselves in a sweat, but Thierry Henry broke the deadlock late in the first half with Lionel Messi completing the job late on in the second.
Liverpool and Arsenal served up quite an entertaining clash on Sunday afternoon that ended in a one all draw. We noted that 1.45 for two goals was tempting but we instead played it safe with just the one goal and Steven Gerrard saw that one home, sending in a thunderous effort on seven minutes. This fuelled emotions of joy, relief and then regrets that with 83 minutes still to play and the league leaders 1-0 down why didn't we just go for 2 - we're never happy us punters are we?
On the flip side, do you have an example of when greed has got the better of you?
