Daniil Medvedev is the favourite to win the men's singles title at the US Open after Novak Djokovic said he wouldn't play at Flushing Meadows this year.

The Russian is 3.65 to retain the title he won in 2021.

The final Grand Slam of 2022 starts on Monday and, one years on from British sensation Emma Raducanu's stunning triumph, Iga Swiatek 5.69/2 is the favourite to win the women's singles.

Raducanu is 29.028/1 to become the first since Serena Williams to successfully defend the title.

Raducanu is 1.768/11 to win her first round match against Alize Cornet.

Williams, who won the tournament three years in a row from 2012-14, is making her final appearance on the hardcourts of New York after announcing her intention to retire afterwards. She is 75.074/1 to bow out as champion for the seventh time.

Nadal and Halep second favourites

Rafael Nadal has struggled with injuries this year and comes to the US Open with a question mark over his fitness after his surprise defeat to Borna Coric at the Cincinnati Masters last week.

But bettors still make the Spaniard second favourite at 5.49/2. His compatriot Carlos Alcaraz 7.06/1 comes next and then its Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios 12.011/1.

British number one Cameron Norrie is 44.043/1 in the outright betting. He reached the semi-final of Wimbledon this summer but the third round is his best performance at the US so far.

In the women's bettors think Simona Halep 9.89/1 is the likeliest to beat Swiatek to the title.

The Romanian has won two Grand Slam titles but only ever got as far as the semi-finals, in 2015, at Flushing Meadows.

Cori Gauff 19.018/1, Aryna Sabalenka 24.023/1 and Elena Rybakina 26.025/1 complete the top five in the market and their odds show that punters are not confident about who will be in contention.
