Thursday Football Tips: Profit by fair means or foul

This column had some success with player fouls on Tuesday and it's back to those markets in the Europa League on Thursday.

A primary reason we're picking out the Ferencvaros v Bayer Leverkusen game is the referee, Artur Soares Dias.

He's averaging close to 27 fouls per game in Portugal this season and while that league is well known for producing fouls and cards, his European figure of 25 this season is also high. That's well above the competition average of 21.54 and still almost two fouls higher than the Europa average of 23.12.

There were 28 fouls when these sides met last week - Leverkusen winning 2-0.

The Hungarians will aim to use their strong home record (three wins and a draw in this competition) in a bid to get back into the tie and so there's still a good chance this remains competitive and produces another high foul count.

If that's the case, two players could well deliver on the 2+ fouls front.

For the hosts, centre forward Ryan Mmaee has had two or more fouls in four of his five Europa League starts this season, including last week's first leg.

As for the visitors, midfielder Robert Andrich is often a short price for a card - and for good reason.

He racks up the fouls in the middle of the park and has landed the 2+ fouls bet in six of his seven European games this season.
