Bayer Leverkusen v Heidenheim
Saturday 23 November, 14:30
It was a suitably dull clash in the Scottish Championship last night, as leaders Falkirk posted a 1-0 win at Queen's Park that landed our Under 2.5 Goals bet with room to spare.
We'll take in a Bundesliga clash now, because Bayer Leverkusen have no margin for error as they take on struggling Heidenheim at the BayArena.
Leverkusen find themselves 12 points behind the leaders Bayern with a game in hand, and they simply aren't hitting the heights they were last term, as they delivered the first ever unbeaten league and cup double in German football history.
Xabi Alonso's side aren't able to put the same physicality into their defending as last season - they aren't recovering the ball as quickly as they once did, and they have already leaked 16 goals in their first ten league outings. For context, they conceded just 24 goals in the whole of last term.
However, Heidenheim could be obliging opponents, as Frank Schmidt's side are suffering a serious case of second season syndrome. FCH have lost six of their last eight league games, including three of the last four on the road.
Heidenheim are at least winning in the Conference League, but I think they'll be on the wrong end of a beating here. I'll back Bayer's Florian Wirtz to score at 2.68/5 - he found the net twice for Germany in their 7-0 win over Bosnia Herzegovina, and he already has seven club goals in 17 games this term.
