La Liga Tips: Barca and Bilbao will both score

Will Marcelino Garcia Toral inspire his Athletic Bilbao side against Barcelona?

With Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao having shared ten goals in two games already this year, Dan Fitch expects another cracker, as he previews the weekend La Liga action.

"Just a couple of weeks ago Bilbao beat Barcelona 3-2 in extra time to lift the Super Cup. These sides also met at the start of January in the reverse La Liga fixture, with that game ending in a 3-2 win for Barcelona."

Back Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao to both score at 1.84/5

Sevilla can avenge early defeat

Sevilla can move up to third if they win at Eibar in this Saturday lunchtime kick off.

Currently fourth, Sevilla have recovered from a poor start to the season and are now very much part of the chasing pack, hoping that the runaway leaders Atletico Madrid will slip up. Atletico are the only team to have beaten Sevilla in their last nine La Liga games (W6 D2).

As mentioned, earlier this season defeats occured more frequently and one of their losses came at home to Eibar. In retrospect it was perhaps not a surprise that Sevilla started slowly. They had very little break in the summer having gone all the way and won the Europa League after the 2019-20 La Liga season ended.

Eibar come into this match on the back of a four game winless streak (D1 L3). Sevilla are in the sort of form that suggests that they can avenge their loss from the reverse fixture and are a decent price at 2.1211/10.

Goals now flowing for Atletico

Cadiz 10.519/2 v Atletico Madrid 1.51/2; The Draw 4.1

Atletico Madrid will be expecting to further strengthen their position at the top of the table when they travel to Cadiz on Sunday.

Last weekend, Atletico came back from being a goal down to win, for the second match in a row. A fortnight ago Eibar took the lead, only to lose 2-1 and then last Sunday, Valencia went ahead, before Atletico rallied to win 3-1.

Atletico have rarely conceded at all this season, so these games provided a test of their title credentials that they passed with flying colours. Diego Simeone's team have not always found goals so easy to come by as they do right now and might have dropped valuable points in this sort of situation. This season they are averaging exactly two goals per league game (P18 S36) and have the firepower to recover from setbacks.

Three of Atletico Madrid's last four La Liga games have seen three or more goals scored. Cadiz lost 3-0 to Sevilla last weekend and 4-0 in the reverse fixture, so back an Atletico win and over 2.5 goals at 2.767/4.

Barca and Bilbao have had two recent five-goal thrillers

Barcelona 1.412/5 v Athletic Bilbao 8.07/1; The Draw 5.39/2

Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao conclude the weekend La Liga action on Sunday, in a repeat of the recent Super Cup final.

Just a couple of weeks ago Bilbao beat Barcelona 3-2 in extra time to lift the Super Cup. These sides also met at the start of January in the reverse La Liga fixture, with that game ending in a 3-2 win for Barcelona.

We have every reason then to expect another entertaining match between two well-matched teams. The Super Cup loss was Barcelona's only defeat in their last 13 games across all competitions (W10 D2), with Bilbao coming into this match off the back of four straight wins.

Lionel Messi will return for his first La Liga fixture having served a suspension after being sent off against Bilbao in the Super Cup. Given the recent history between the sides, it seems strange that both teams to score is available at a relatively generous price of 1.84/5.
