Next Chelsea Manager: Thomas Tuchel heavy odds-on to replace Lampard

Thomas Tuchel is the favourite to become the next Chelsea manager after Frank Lampard was sacked by the Stamford Bridge club today.

The German manager is 4/9 to get the job, and was backed heavily over the weekend, having been 6/4 last week.

He leads a list of candidates which also include Andriy Schevchenko 4/1 and Rafael Benitez 9/1 who attracted support in the betting after leaving his role at Chinese club Dalian Professional.

Instead, Benitez is 4/6 to take over at Celtic if Neil Lennon leaves his post.

Tuchel to take over from failing Lampard

The west London club have been struggling since November and are ninth in the Premier League.

Lampard spent over £200m in the summer and, earlier in the season, his team looked like contenders for the Premier League title.

They beat Luton in the FA Cup yesterday but that wasn't enough to save his job.

Chelsea play Wolves on Wednesday and Tuchel could be in charge by then.

The 47-year-old made his name at Mainz before moving to Dortmund where he succeeded Jurgen Klopp in 2015. Tuchel spent two years in charge and enjoyed a win percentage of 62.96%. However, he had a strained relationship with the club's hierarchy and won only one trophy - the DFB-Pokal (German cup).

He became PSG manager in 2018, winning two Ligue 1 titles and the French Cup. Probably his greatest achievement there was taking them to their first Champions League final which they lost to Bayern Munich in August.

After a patchy start to the season, he was fired by PSG in December.
