Germany v Portugal: Goals, goals and more goals

I hate to sound too predictable but the same logic applies to Germany's opening match against Portugal as to the Netherlands against Denmark. Germany score goals, and Portugal showed in qualifying that, while being vulnerable at one end of the field, they are capable of being pretty potent at the other.

Since the Carlos Queiroz farce ended (and the qualifying part of THAT reign contained a 4-4 draw with Cyprus) only one of Portugal's Group games contained fewer than 2.5 goals (a key 1-0 win over Norway) and four of those six matches featured over 3.5 goals with that 5-3 triumph over Hungary thrown in for good measure.

Yes, there was a 0-0 draw in their first play off match, but they won that second leg against Bosnia - Herzogovina by a 6-2 scoreline. Even if you take into account the fact that this is a potentially cagey opening game at a European Championship, 2.1211/10 looks too big a price for the game to feature over 2.5 goals.

Germany always come to the party as far as goals are concerned, and they scored at least three goals in eight of their ten qualifying matches, with only one match, their final group match against Belgium, featuring fewer than three. There's no reason to expect that Germany will change the way that they play, and while Bento and Portugal MAY approach things in a more circumspect style, there are still match-ups all over the field that look like leading to goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo against (as looks probable) Jerome Boateng, and Germany's fearsome forward line against Bruno Alves and Pepe.
