Dimitar Berbatov: Top four finish would show Solskjaer's the real deal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Solskjaer is more than a transitional boss

Betfair Ambassador Dimitar Berbatov looks forward to the return of the Premier League, says Spurs fans should get behind their team and salutes Liverpool...

"Sometimes you must take one step back before two steps forward. I understand people are criticising Jose Mourinho and are still unhappy about the way Mauricio Pochettino left, but this is where Spurs are."

I just can't wait for Premier League to be back, to see teams competing and the ball being passed around. It won't be the same without fans but at least we'll be able to watch. Even if you're busy with the kids, to have it on in the background will make you feel at peace - although you do swear if your team are on and not playing as good as you want them to!

The teams in mid-table are the least likely to be motivated, but they will probably enjoy it the most as they have nothing to lose.

Solskjaer need a top four finish

It's so important for Manchester United to finish in the top four. It won't be easy, but they need to do it. The first game against Tottenham is so important, they need to take their chance.

If they qualify for the Champions League then next season will be huge. It will give confidence to the manager and cement him in the job. A Champions League spot will entice players to play for him, so I hope they qualify.

I think the board have faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and that's the most important thing. I'm sure they speak constantly, they give him confidence to build and use young players. He shouldn't be seen as a transitional figure anymore, it's disrespectful. I want them to take that spot for Ole. Paul Pogba is back, and if they all stay fit for nine games, that will help.

Strong finish would be big boost for Spurs

I hope Spurs finish as high up as possible, they're far off fourth but they could surprise people. If next season is a normal one, as we hope, then they can prove themselves properly.

Sometimes you must take one step back before two steps forward. I understand people are criticising Jose Mourinho and are still unhappy about the way Mauricio Pochettino left, but this is where Spurs are. Mourinho is doing his own thing, next season you can judge him when he has them fully prepared.

It's possible that Pochettino will be back one day. I know he wants to return and he is loved there, but for now Mourinho is in charge.

Liverpool will be deserved champions

Liverpool have been so consistent this season. Jurgen Klopp has transformed this team and you can see the results. Every game, they run, press, play with imagination, and other teams can't cope. It's down to Klopp's coaching and his recruitment as you need the right personnel to play like that. The front three are so important in modern football and Liverpool's are very fast.

Klopp's men are going to win the title and it will be very strange for them to lift the trophy in an empty stadium. Obviously, you win it and it's a huge achievement and you feel that, but the missing factor will be the fans, so you can't enjoy it in full without them. If they're allowed to have a parade that will compensate, but it will be so strange. It's ironic that they have done so well but no one will be there to see them lift the trophy.
