Saturday's televised Championship fixture pits together West London rivals Fulham and QPR at Craven Cottage. Mark O'Haire previews and recommends a bet.

"No Championship sides have seen more goals per-game through 11 rounds than Fulham (3.27) and QPR (3.45), with 15 of their combined 22 contests producing Over 2.5 Goals profit..."

Fulham blown away at Coventry

Ante-post favourites Fulham have been licking their wounds over the international break. The Cottagers were thrashed 4-1 at Coventry in their most recent Championship clash, leading 1-0 at the break before four second-half goals in 25 minutes inflicted a third defeat of the campaign on the Whites, provoking an apology from boss Marco Silva post-match.

The Fulham supremo said: "I have to apologise to our fans because everything was wrong from the beginning of the second half to the end. I didn't expect what we did in the second-half. I told them I was disappointed and a little bit surprised to how we reacted. It's 45 minutes, where we lacked the important things that we need to be successful."

Silva is likely to shuffle his pack with a few enforced changes. Left-back Antonee Robinson, centre-back Tim Ream and attacking midfielder Bobby Decordova-Reid have all been involved in World Cup qualifiers late on Wednesday and are likely to miss out. Right-back Kenny Tete is still injured but Fabio Carvalho is back in training and could return.

QPR defence causes concern

QPR manager Mark Warburton has warned his Rangers' team they must improve defensively if they are to sustain a promotion challenge. The R's beat Preston 3-2 at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium before the international break, with Ilias Chair scoring the winner just three minutes after his free-kick supplied the equaliser.

But despite controlling the contest for long periods, the Hoops' ongoing tendency to concede soft goals against the run of play was evident again.

Warburton said: "The negatives are two awful goals given away. You can't give two goals away. We know we're going to be on the front foot and create chances, but we have to be better defensively."

Warburton has been absent from training this week after testing posting for Covid-19. The QPR boss will be back in the dugout for Saturday's showdown and may have Sam McCallum available again after the left-back returned to the fold. Longer-term absentee Sam Field is also back in training but unlikely to feature, whilst Lee Wallace is still unavailable.

Whites firm favourites

Fulham boast a strong recent record against West London neighbours QPR. The Cottagers are unbeaten in their most recent five league meetings with Rangers (W3-D2-L0), completing a league double when they last met in 2019-20. The hosts have triumphed in 10 of the past 14 head-to-heads (W10-D2-L2), scoring in every meeting dating back to 2000.

Fulham 1.654/6 have dropped five points off the Championship pace-setters following a return of just two triumphs in six (W2-D1-L3). However, Silva's men continue to top the Expected Points (xP) charts, and rank inside the top-three for all the major performance data metrics. The hosts have gone off shorter than 1.402/5 in three home outings already.

QPR 5.204/1 have won the most games (20), the most points (65) and scored the most goals (59) of any Championship team in regular league action in 2021. But Rangers' record at top-half teams hasn't completely convinced with the R's posting W1-D2-L3. Trips to both Bournemouth and West Brom have ended fruitless despite encouraging efforts.

Fulham to edge enjoyable encounter

Goals look likely to be on the agenda and the market is forecasting a high-scoring encounter with Over 2.5 Goals as short as 1.574/7. No Championship sides have seen more goals per-game through 11 rounds than Fulham (3.27) and QPR (3.45), with 15 of their combined 22 contests producing Over 2.5 Goals profit and eight outings seeing Over 3.5 Goals bank.

Both Teams To Score 1.625/8 has proven a winning selection in eight (73%) of each team's 11 fixtures, as the pair have scored in 21 of those aforementioned 22 collective matches. With that in mind, it may pay to support Fulham to win and Both Teams To Score at 2.8815/8 on the Sportsbook. The hosts have managed just two clean sheets under Marco Silva's tutorship.
